Guest guest Report post Posted October 20, 2000 Can someone give us more info on this type of virus. I was not aware a virus was sent til Marcus posted and I had already read the virus post, yet there was no attachment with mine (I'm on regular email posts). Why do some of us receive it with the virus and some not? (The digest does show an attachment was included with her post.) Marie, did get it taken care of? Tell her not to be embarrassed or feel bad. It's happened before and probably will again. We know she didn't mean to send it! Carla scwashdc@... wrote: > Marcus, , Marie-- > > I read the " infected " e-mail. Guest guest Report post Posted October 20, 2000 First of all, there was no attachment; I was simply reading her e mail, when it flashed on my screen that Norton had found a virus. When I posted it, apparently went to a website and got it fixed. But I can't figure why some people would get it and others would not, if there was no attachment involved?? marie Re: virus >Can someone give us more info on this type of virus. Guest guest Report post Posted October 20, 2000 Oh I just re-read your message re their was an attachment; I did not know that, I don't think the post indicated there was an attachment? I am very hesitant about opening attachments for this very reason. Marie Re: virus >Can someone give us more info on this type of virus. Guest guest Report post Posted October 21, 2000 Steve ! I have NO idea what this virus can do. Many only alter files and may not cause damage other than spread around from one system to another. I tried to contact Norton people but it was a DUD address. Hmmm Anti Virus programs that scan mail before it gets into your computer are the way to go. Guest guest Report post Posted October 21, 2000 Hi All Norton have informed me this Kak Worm, and most Worm viruses eat all files on your hard drive. In the New Member bio (get a cup of coffee it's long) the virus was compressed in the attachment. Re: virus Steve ! I have NO idea what this virus can do. Guest guest Report post Posted October 21, 2000 BTW if your using AOL, this virus won't affect your email at all just be sure not to download any attachments on the virus mail. AOL uses a pretty " dumb " mail client, and doesn't have capabilities for the virus to exploit. Pete

Guest guest Report post Posted October 21, 2000 Hi Everyone - silent here :-) I just wanted to clear something up about the Virus - this worm only attaches it self to Microsoft Outlook - if you use any other mail program this Virus/Worm will not affect you. This is one of the worms that was developed (makes ya wonder what kind of people sit around making other people's lives a hassle) because of the Security problem in Outlook. Each time someone develops a new worm Microsoft issues a patch for that virus and the Security breach but they always see to find another one. I suggest keeping Outlook updated at least once a month, I stopped using it all together and now use Eudora and Netscape Messenger. The actions of the worm are that it will attach itself to each and every outgoing email an affected computer sends - and the person doing it is completely unaware that they have the virus unless they have good anti virus program. This worm is immature meaning that it will only spread itself into your Outlook program but it can cause other problems. It creates files (read about them here http://www.avp.ch/avpve/worms/kakworm.stm ) That will shut down any programs you are using on the 1st of every month and will shut down windows all together. Even those that have purged the virus with a anti virus program should do a search for those file names on their system. Read number #1 under protection on the page link I gave. In fact, if you know you have had the worm or you know that you use Outlook I would follow the steps under the PROTECTION section of that page. Hope this helps someone! :-) Winkle kwinkle1@...
