Sure

I think she'd like it. I took it to my real time group and read it

yesterday...several of the women really NEEDED to hear it. It brought

up a lot of issues--learning to accept your new self and to stop

thinking it's ok to NOT take a compliment. I realize that everyone's

ideal of what is normal is different from person to person, ethnic

group to ethnic group, but normal for me, right now, is where I'm at.

Being able to NOT have to go to Lane (except for bras of

course), not having to buy gigantic panties (and when you're a

30/32--that's what they are--gigantic!)--and realizing where you were

and where you are now are 2 different realities. And working to live

in THIS ONE!

Just wonderful Alisa! I think we all have that moment of truth at some

point when we have to accept that we have actually changed and its not

just a figment of our imaginations. Ty for putting yourself out there

and sharing your moment with us.

I'm a closet writer. Like many frustrated writers, I dont' always

get inspiration when I want it, but sometimes it just comes. In that

vein, a little something has been spinning around my head the last 2

days, and I hope that you'll indulge me in posting it. How it came

to be..a coworker, someone I see every day, said to me Wed--you look

SKINNY! And as she said it I automatically said no I don't. And 2

other women echoed what she had said before I could even get the

negative words out of my mouth. So I decided to go LOOK in the mirror

and see if I could see what they said they saw...and you know what?

I did. I'm not skinny by society's standards--and probably never

will be. But I AM skinny by MY standard. Coming from almost 400 lbs

to a comfy, lush feeling low 200s (damn that water retention!), I

FEEL skinny for the first time in my life. Even with the excess

stomach skin and inner thigh flappage...I looked in the mirror and

made myself be satisfied with what I saw. And then grinned.

That being said...I present to you " Skinny in the Mirror " .

Skinny in the Mirror

I looked in the mirror

And what did I see?

A skinny, pretty stranger

Staring back at me!

I looked over my shoulder

Cause I knew that couldn't be me

When she turned around too

I said…well heck...how can THAT be?

I swung around fast

And she did too

Ok now wait a minute

Who's fooling who?

I closed my eyes tight

Thinking " this is confusing "

Wondering if in some strange way

She found my antics amusing

I opened my eyes

Slowly and sure

And again, to my surprise

There she stood, real, beautiful, and definitely NOT demure

I gave a great sigh

She did as well

I decided to ignore her

The best course of action, as far as I could tell

In that quick minute

I had an odd theory

What if that girl

Might really be me…really?

No, that's not possible

That cannot be right!

If that was the case…

Then the mirror IS right!

So I grinned at that girl

And she grinned back at me too

All I could think of

Was yes…that skinny pretty girl really is YOU!
