Hi Barbara,

There is a wide variety of scenarios in frequency of changing g-tube

buttons. Kendra's came out every couple of months due to the tube material

disintegrating. We replaced it at home easily. She had a MIC-key tube and

later button.

Some kinds of buttons require replacement by a doctor. When Kendra had this

type, it could be changed at the office.

It varies. In hospitals they are routinely changed monthly. At home they

can last much longer depending on what food goes through them and if they

tend to clog. We change the button ourselves. It sounds scarey, but is

actually a very simple, painless procedure that home health or the doctor's

staff can teach you. Kim
