Guest guest Posted July 28, 2006 Report Share Posted July 28, 2006 Dear Friends and Colleagues, The Association for Promoting Social Action (APSA), Bangalore, is seeking two new staff members for its " Sexuality & Sexual Health programme for Street & Slum Children in India " Position 1. Developer-designer of training and small-group intervention methodologies / Trainer / Consultant Candidates must have a minimum of five years of relevant work experience, with adequate training experience and experience in developing interactive and creative group exercises/activities (preferably for youth). Furthermore, candidates must be willing to make a serious commitment to stay in the job for at least the duration of the first contract, id est a minimum of 3 years. The preferred age of candidates is in between 32 and 45 years. Starting date: October 1, 2006. Job Description: - (Co-)Develop the Activities Workbook: a series of 120 creative and interactive intervention activities on sexuality, sexual health and related life skills for small groups of teenage street and slum children; - Develop training modules on (teenage) sexuality, sexual health, sexual rights, related life skills, and working with street and slum teenagers on the issue, for adult NGO field staff + help write the training manual; - Co-organize and conduct intensive training programs for staff members of those NGOs that will start using our sexual health intervention programme; -Coach / give guidance to the six South Indian street and slum children NGOs that will pilot-test the Sexual Health Intervention program (how to effectively integrate working on these issues into their activities); -Supervise the actual pilot tests (Andhra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu); -Maintain regular contact to the relevant (international) donor agencies + official report writing and the writing of further funding proposals; -Build an active Indian NGO Network on ‘Street and Slum Children and Sexual Health’ (largely through the internet); -Assist in conducting an effect study over the intervention programme (research); -Write several publications / booklets; -Active advocacy, and building linkages to (international) NGOs, governmental bodies/agencies and multilateral organizations. Preferred Educational background: -A relevant Masters Degree, preferably with post-graduate training in a relevant field; -Preferably having undergone education for being a trainer (e.g. ToT). Experience required: - Experience with interactive (and creative) training methodologies; - Experience in giving training sessions to adults; - Managerial experience / organizational experience; - Experience in writing publications; - Preferably experience in working on issues of sexuality and sexual health; - Preferably experience in working with children and youth; Personal Attitudes: - True openness and a positive attitude towards the whole range of sexuality issues; - Enthusiastic about working with creative and interactive methodologies; - Willingness to work from a rights-based approach; - Positive attitude towards working with teenage street children and slum children; Specific Knowledge: - Good knowledge of sexuality and sexual health issues; - Understanding of youth sexuality & adolescent (sexual) development / child psychology; General Skills: - Good computer skills; - Excellent English writing skills (report/publications); - Good presentation skills (e.g. conferences) / communication skills / interpersonal skills; - Good skills in working with groups; - Good management / coordination skills; - Able to work on various levels: from less (formally) educated grassroots field staff, to directors and representatives from international organizations; Language skills: - Full fluency in English (both writing and talking) – please do not respond if you do not meet this requirement; - (preferably) Able to speak (basic) Kannada; - Preferably a basic knowledge of Tamil and/or Telugu. Position 2. Management & Secretarial Assistant Candidates must have a minimum of three years of relevant work experience, including extensive secretarial and organizational experience. The preferred age of candidates is in between 26 and 45 years. Starting date: December 1, 2006. Job Description: - Assist with all the logistics for organizing training workshops and conferences; - Ensure that the weekly feedback forms from the six South Indian pilot NGOs are collected; - Assist with the logistics for our publications; - Assist with the logistics for the within-APSA meetings and input sessions; - Assist in handling all project correspondence; - Further secretarial and organizational/management assistance in support of the Sexuality Project. Preferred Educational background: - Graduate / Bachelor degree Experience required: - Extensive general secretarial / organizational experience; Personal Attitude: - Openness towards the theme of the project; - Hard-working; - Confident to work independently. General Skills: - Excellent organizational skills; - Strong correspondence skills in English (preferably also in Kannada); - Good computer skills (incl. Word, Excel); - Good interpersonal skills. Language skills: - Fluent in English (both writing and talking) – please do not respond if you do not meet this requirement; - Confident in (speaking) Kannada – please do not respond if you do not meet this requirement; - Preferably having a basic knowledge of Tamil and/or Telugu (oral); Salary indication for position 1: Salary will depend on experience and qualifications. Minimum salary around Rs. 12,000 // MAXIMUM salary: Rs. 18,000 (fulltime per month, gross salary; ONLY slightly negotiable, and ONLY if VERY HIGHLY QUALIFIED). Salary indication for position 2: Gross monthly salary (fulltime) in between Rs. 6,000 and Rs. 9,500, depending on qualifications.
