UNDP/SC/2006/048 Date of Issue: 15 May 2006, Closing Date: 31 May 2006 Post Title : Research Associate- AIDS Community Organization: United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Duty Station: New Delhi Duration: One Year Type of Contract: Service Contract This vacancy is open to applicants of either sex. Preference will be given to equally qualified women candidates. Background: Working under the supervision of the AIDS Community Resource Person, AIDS Community Research Associate will be responsible for providing the relevant knowledge community ( " Community of Practice " ) with research, documentation, codification, and analysis to generate and maintain knowledge products. Knowledge communities are comprised of possibly over a thousand development practitioners in a thematic area drawn from government, NGOs, CBOs, academic and research institutions, UN, other multilateral and bilateral agencies, and the private sector. Duties and Responsibilities: Conducts research, mainly through web and document searches and networking, for knowledge and information needed to enhance the depth of response to queries posted by community members over the networks or for discussion topics Updates the community's workspace (website) with relevant document resources, news and link sites. Index new content under the appropriate categories and keywords. Liaise with community members to identify new content Formulates, compiles and edits knowledge content provided to the community: consolidated replies to community queries (compiling the response and drafting the initial synopsis for further vetting); summaries of e-discussions; community newsletters (including soliciting contributions); news digests and updates Monitors and maintains community member lists and performance indicators. Reports on community performance and network utilization Organizes and arranges logistic and operational support for community events and initiatives Qualifications: Post-graduate degree in a development specialization relevant to the particular community of practice. Experience: · 2 to 5 years of either practical substantive experience in the relevant development specialization at the national level, or experience in a research or academic capacity. · Basic experience carrying out desk research. · General experience in information technology tools Knowledge and Skills: · Good knowledge of the key concerns and challenges facing development practitioners in the relevant substantive area. · Highly effective at securing relevant information through desk research; effective at applying web search tools and conventions. · Motivated, energetic, thorough, and responsive to the needs of clients · Excellent drafting skills. · Excellent analytical, organizational and presentational skills; particularly with taxonomies and databases.
