Dear All,

Please do let me know if there has been any sudy undertaken in India co-relating

dissability and Aids. Or is there an NGO or Doctors working among this group.

If so please do let me know. Do share the information.

Dear FORUM,

Re: Posting on, " Any study done in INDIA co-relating Dissablity and

AIDS? "

I am so glad that at last someone is talking about Disability and HIV. The

vulnerability of people with disabilities is high because access to information

is limited (non -existent) and they are also doubly stigmatized if found

positive.

Many years ago (1998-1999) McArthur Foundation had a fellow C.Y. Gopinath who

was working on IEC for hearing impaired girls.

Around the same time, as part of UNDP supported sensitization programme for NGOs

(not engaged in HIV), Bangalore based Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR)

Network initiated a study to assess vulnerabilities of women with disabilities.

Unfortunately either the study never happened or the report never got out.

Perhaps, you could check with Ms. Indumati Rao at the CBR network Bangalore.

The responses to this query, will help `making a case' for the Ministry of

Social Justice and Empowerment to focus on disability when it draws up its plan

to mainstream HIV.

Regards,

Alka
