The STI & HIV Certificate Course for Medical Practitioners – Chennai, 1st to 9th

July 2006.

The STI Certificate Course brings together some of the most experienced experts

in STIs and HIV/AIDS in India, working alongside overseas faculty who have been

running the successful COTTISA Course in Thailand. It is orientated towards the

practical application of STI and HIV/ AIDS management and relates directly to

managing cases within primary care. It will use a variety of interactive

training techniques, including hands-on clinic and laboratory sessions,

mannequin practice, interactive role play and informal question and answer

sessions with national and international faculty.

Training organisations:

The Indian Association for the Study of Sexually Transmitted Diseases and AIDS

(IASSTD & AIDS).

The Consortium of Thai Training Institutes for Sexual Health and HIV/AIDS

(COTTISA).

Faculty from Nottingham City Hospital and St ’s Hospital, Portsmouth, UK.

Supported by the Resource Centre for Sexual Health and HIV/AIDS, New Delhi.

Eligibility criteria: MBBS doctors employed in government, private or NGO

sectors are welcome to apply. Preference will be given to those who see STIs as

part of their work or would like to develop a special interest in this area.

The course schedule includes sessions on counseling, syndromic and laboratory

diagnosis and management of STIs, principles of ART and management of

opportunistic infections. Applications from female doctors are encouraged.

Course structure: This is a residential 9 day course that will be run twice

this year. The first course will take place in Chennai from the 1st to 9th July

2006.

Course fee: 1000 rupees per participant. This includes accommodation, food,

course- material, visits to selected clinics and laboratories for hands-on

training, welcome dinner and participation certificate.
