Guest guest
Dear Forum: It is in the interests of the HIV AIDS community in the Asia Pacific region to know exactly what the people who are nominated for being elected to the IAS General Council have to do once they are elected, and what their vision is for advancing the fight against HIV AIDS in the region. With this note, I am calling from each of the nominated members a statement on what they have to offer to advance the fight against HIV AIDS in the region, while on the board of the IAS. In particular, I would like to hear from all, and especially the Indian nominees, what they would see as their specific remit in representing the Indian community interests on the IAS board. To those of the Forum members that are eligible to vote members of the IAS, I would urge you to wait to cast your votes till you see the public statements from each of the nominees. This would be in the best interests of maintaining transparency, and accountability of the elected members of the Governing Council of the IAS. With best wishes to each of the nominees, Conflict of interest. None: Not a voting member of IAS. Dr. Bobby E-mail: <bj@...>
Guest guest
Ref; Dr. Bobby 's message on IAS Governing Council Election. Call for votes. Hi..I am Dr Ravi Saini one of candidate for IAS GC from asia- pacific. I appreciate Dr. Bobby 's concern regarding committment each nominee would do before going to election. I am STD/ AIDS expert having working in this field for the last > 16 years. Presently I am incharge of regional STD Sentinel center at Medical college Amritsar which caters to the population of 8 million. I have the distinctionof detecting first Hiv+ person in punjab in 1991 and also making first NGO of state AIDS AWARENESS GROUP (aag) in 1992 after I read first paper of my region in 2nd International conferernce of AIDS in Asia Pacific in Delhi in 1992. As there was no treatment and tests avilable I took the leed to form the strategies for prevention of this disease by involving all the concened segments of the society, more so at that time were truckers. We covered the whole state.. used media like TV..News papers .. Books for school children. designed material organised workshops, camps so on.. then I started training the doctors/ paramedicals/ counsellors to check this menace. We had DFID British High commision project for use of condom and advocasing safe sex on national high way no 1 and did it commendely. We along with sate AIDS control society also did many prjects pertaing to STD/AIDS. I participated in almost all the International conferences on AIDS in last > 10 years in different parts of the cuntry and read my papers as well as share and gain the expertise to be used in my city, state and country. I was honoured by Govt of India in 1996 on republic day too. I am in regular panel for any AIDS related activities in my state and now I have been in collaboration with different organisations to target all aspects of HIV/AIDS may it be , Drug users...positive pregnant women for prevention of vetical transmission. , safe sex promotion.. VTCC center...STD center, blood banks safety.. colloboration with NACO and state AIDS control society, providing cheap drugs in colloboration with Cipla health care company..Red cross society etc etc. As I am specialist in treatment part as giving ART I have more then 500 patients on ART and people are coming from neighbouring states of HP, J & K too. By becoming the GC member I have the commitment not remain at regional level but to bridge the gap in all aspects of HIV/AIDS in my country as well as Asia Pacific area. I will bring changes in system which will be making policies.. regarding the availabilties of cheap drugs/ free drugs to poorest.. rights of HIV+ people for jobs ..in society/....stop indiscrimination at all levels.. sensitise the doctors and health care people to look at HIV/AIDS persons as like any other chronic disease, giving emphasis on preventive aspects for those who are not effected from this disease and bringing latest in treatment for those who are effected at lowest cost ...I will try to bring big NGO'S under the umbrella of IAS ..which will ultimately bring a check to this disease at all the levels. i hope if given a chance I will prove what mean. regards DR RAVI SAINI MD AMRITSAR, INDIA E-MAIL: <ravisaini@...>
