Organisation Profile: Human Rights Law Network: The Human Rights Law Network (HRLN), established in 1989, is a national collective of lawyers and social activists dedicated to using the legal system to advance human rights and access to justice for the poor and marginalized individuals and communities in the country. In addition to pro bono legal services and public interest litigation, HRLN engages in out of court advocacy, conducts legal workshops, investigations, publishes ‘know your rights’ material and participates in campaigns. In collaboration with social movements and human rights and development organizations, HRLN works with women, prisoners, dalits, workers, children, farmers, indigenous people, refugees, people affected by HIV, the homeless, religious minorities and sexuality minorities, persons with disabilities, among others. HRLN is functional in 22 states of India. HIV/AIDS and the Law Initiative In view of the HIV/AIDS pandemic, Human Rights Law Network has a project, which aims to create awareness against discrimination of affected people . The lack of community awareness on this serious health concern has resulted in the gross violation of human rights of the affected people. With the alarming increase in the number of affected persons, stigma and systematic discrimination towards affected people has merely grown. Therefore this initiative will work with people living with HIV/AIDS in order to prevent human rights violations through the use of law. Scope and responsibility: The HIV/AIDS Director/Assistance Director’s job entails working with the Executive Director and the team. They are primarily responsible for among other things: Consolidate the programme at the national level and design a plan of action for state units Assist and conduct awareness training programmes at the state level Represent the organization in various forum, Ensure timely and effective reporting of the programme to the Founder Director and the funding agencies To encourage stakeholders to file Public Interest Litigation, whenever necessary Participate and conduct Legal Training Qualifications: The foremost is that, as HIV/AIDS coordinator the incumbent must have a deep commitment for the cause and must have a good understanding of rights. Other qualifications include: A Master's Degree The Person applying need not be a lawyer. Minimum 5 years of experience as coordinator/project manager in related field preferably in a NGO on HIV/AIDS: Excellent writing and communication skills in English. Fluency in Hindi and/or other Indian languages will be an added advantage Willingness to travel domestically. A self-motivated, articulate person capable of managing multiple and competing priorities. Must have good working relationships with existing positive network groups. Compensation will be based on experience and qualification and comparable to similar type of organizations.
