Anne, Thanks I know my doctor at that time even told me the headaches was

not a side effect of the Lupron but how amazing when the shot wore off I

stopped having the headaches. So I will never have them again. I am glad

they are not to bad for you good luck.

Hi Anne, I also had terrible headaches from the lupron. I

only had the 1

dose the headaches were so bad I ended up in the ER on

several occasions. I

will never try them again.

Question 1: how are you taking 1200 mg of calcium daily? All at once or split

in half doses spread

out during the day?

Question 2: what are all the different kinds of pain meds you've been taking to

alleviate pain?

calcium has the potential for interaction with drugs like naproxen, etc.

calcium shouldn't be taken in such a high dose all at once. for better

absorption, it should be taken

in 500-600 mg doses spread out during day.

also, naproxen is simply a prescriptive form of an NSAID -- much as 800 mg dose

of ibuprofen is. it's

possible that taking NSAIDs could be interacting with the calcium you are taking

(if taken at the same

time as calcium) and causing systemic distress. or, if you aren't eating

something at the same time

as popping an NSAID, well that can cause distress as well. you should always

have a bit of food on

your stomach when taking NSAIDs.

as a vegan, my daughter needs constant monitoring of her supplements and calcium

is one she can't

really go without. but, with frequent aches and pains from dancing abuse on her

body, she also takes

a fair amount of NSAIDs. never together though and never without at least some

crackers/veggies/fruit

-- as she's discovered the hard way just how much distress the interaction (or

taking NSAIDs without

food) can cause.

What type of surgery will you be having? Must be frustrating to have your

surgery postponed because of a cold, I hope your rescheduled surgery goes

well.

i was told no more than 3 injections of lupron in one persons lifetime

because of the danger of osteoporosis. then u could talk about all the other

things its doing while in your system......who would want it in their body

more than one time.

mild headache for 2 weeks and today it hasnt returned so im hoping it wont.

also ive had some mild night sweats and not every night so this is tolerable

for me.

i was as informed as i felt i could have been on the drug lupron before

starting the injections. i talked to my doc and his nurse several times and

my MD about the drug. i did so much research on the net to learn more about

lupron. i too have had my head spinning.......some women say they would never

let a doc give them an injection under any circumstances. now on the

subject of lupron to shrink a fibroid, yes it will but it is used accorning

to my doctor more importantly to keep the chance of blood loss down.

Regarding the previous post " no more than 3 injections of lupron in one

persons lifetime because of the danger of osteoporosis " ...

I have to jump in on the discussion of Lupron. (beware of lengthy rant...)

Right now I'm mulling over my doc's recommendation for a myo, and my

reservations about Lupron. She's willing to perform my surgery without

Lupron, though she recommends a three-month course to minimize blood loss,

and " increase the odds " for saving my uterus. Noble goals, but based on

what I've been reading anecdotally, Lupron's effectiveness seems to be just

a crapshoot anyway.

And why is it that there are nearly as many opinions as opinion-givers about

this drug, its recommended dosage, and the potential side effects? How can

one doc recommend a 6 month course of the drug, while another recommends

three, while another recommends " no more than three in a lifetime " because

of adverse effects?? And why is it that the reasons given for using the

drug and its actual effectiveness are all over the map?? It's supposed to

reduce the size of fibroids, BUT, my doc admitted she is performing a myo

this week on a woman with a single volleyball sized fibroid and is not

giving Lupron because " it's too big to make a difference. " So let me see

.... it's important to shrink my orange-sized fibroids to avoid blood loss,

blah-blah, but it's NOT helpful to shrink a volleyball-sized fibroid?? How

can that be?

Why do some docs I read about in this forum insist on using Lupron, while

others never even suggest it, while others vacillate on the appropriate

dosage?

This really bugs me! There's so much information -- sometimes

conflicting -- from so many different sources that it makes my head spin.

Apparently this is ALSO a side effect of Lupron, without even having a

single shot! (LOL)

Hi Anne

Thanks Anne believe it or not I woke up with another cold this morning.

Maybe its fear of surgery coming out as a cold. I hope not because I'm ready

to put this behind me.

My story is on any given day I change my mind from a myo to a hyst. My

doctor has schedule me for a myo because it requires more or time but will

allow me to change to a hyst up until the last minute. At this point I am

leaning towards a hyst. the reasons are as follows: I'm more scared of

regrowth then I am of not having my uterus. My fibroid grew to about

17/18cm in less than a year. mine has been very symptomatic. I don't plan on

having children. I have 3 friends that have all had hyst. None have

experience any problems. One slightly regrets it because she didn't know

about other options. She didn't want more kids she just felt like her choice

was taken away. the decision is probably harder then the surgery. I've been

reading the posts on this board for awhile.(I think about 6 months) most

seem to be encouraging myos over hyst. although most people on this board

recognize its one's own choice. I'm grateful for all that I've learned on

this board and everyone has been very kind and supportive. However sometimes

its so much information it can be confusing.

Good Luck in your choices
