Yes it is sweet but you put a dab of unsweetened whip cream or even just

regular cream and it is perfect. Home made has very strong coffee

flavor, and LOTS of caffeine..LOL It is not meant to drink alot of but

about a shot glass.

I don't know about quilting or cooking, but cleaning house ABSOLUTELY

requires that sort of music. Aerosmith gets me going, so does Creed.

Marti,

In 2001 I lost my mom and it basically tore the sibling aspect apart.

What we do now, living 2000 miles from family is go to the movies on

Christmas day. They are open and it takes you away from it all.

UNless you see a really funny Christmas movie then, it keeps you in

the holiday, but at least it's funny :)

Since we live near the beach, we get Chinese food, go to the beach,

eat it out of the box, and then hit the movies. It has become " our "

tradition. It was different at first, but now we look forward to it.

I hope you are able to make your own tradition and are happy at this

time of year :)

Peace, jackie

Hi Mo I hear yea, I do take care of number 1 learned a long time ago is I don't

no one else will. It's not easy so I need to keep reminding myself to do this.

When you have been sick for 23 yrs on and off sick leave from work money getting

short you see the writing on the wall.

Hi Phil

How about having a think about what really makes YOU happy apart from seeing

your family happy.

Something just for YOU!

Because I am like you in this respect, what makes everyone else happy makes

me happy and I have come to realise that this attitude is not serving me well

in the long-term, not helping me get well.

I am learning, the hard way I might add, that I really have to start finding

ways of putting myself first, of looking to my own needs.

This is proving to be real hard work just even beginning to figure out what

my own needs actually are because, like I say, all my life my only real need

seems to have been to make everyone else happy. Then I am happy.

But this is all having to change now and Christmas is proving a good

practice ground for me.

Thank God for MP3 players my brother is a Music Nut he collects everything that

has to do with Rock and Roll going back to the Doo Woop songs. He showed me a

MP3 player he had some 4 yrs. ago it had a 20 gigibite hard drive in it and

could hold all of his collection. I went out and bought one and he put all his

collection in to my MP3 player so now I have all his music. The only thing is

some of it is bad real bad I have some Elvis that will make your skin crawl.

This MP3 is like a dam big Ipod. I love the old songs never thought I would

hear my self say that. I remember my morher say how she loved the old music

for her is was Swing.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who finds the holidays unnerving! I'm

basically alone in Houston, which is the way I like it, in a rather tony

area called Clear Lake ( Yates lived a mile and a half from where I

am now) and just don't care for the holidays anymore. Maybe if I had

kids I'd feel differently. My sister lives in Las Vegas, and the rest of

what's left of my family is in New Orleans. Long as I stay here and away

from them, they're fine with it. I prefer being alone. Last year some

nicely dressed woman, probably coming from church and walking around my

complex on Christmas Day, said, " Merry Christmas, " and all I could say

was, " thank you. " I think I was putting trash out.

Hypo? Probably, although I tell people it's because I'm Buddhist. I

really am, been hypo for nearly 12 years now and Buddhist for 20 years.

(I'm not going to preach or twist ANY arms here!) I was so glad to find

out last year one of my coworkers is Jewish. She understands, too, even

though she's married to a former Catholic, but is some other Christian

now. Then a lady who worked in Vitamin Shoppe told me she was Wiccan,

and mentioned that the holidays really mess with someone who's NOT

Christian, it disturbs the energy--something like that. She went to work

for Blockbuster in Alvin. AAAAHH!!! I miss being able to talk to her

more often.

Our department's holiday luncheon is on the 14th. I'm debating on

claiming ignorance-- " I thought it was next week! " or just going and

bringing something I'd never eat myself. One of RR's recipes with lots

of tortellini (PASTA, y'all!) and a great spinach pesto. About 10% make

life difficult, the rest are wonderful people. I'm currently giving the

cold shoulder to one guy who's been a real *****, worked great on another

guy who I once had a crush on. No dating at work for me--they're mostly

Quasimotos anyway, or married.

Kismet says I need to get off the computer. Don't argue with the

furkids! Time to fill the food dish, of course.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Actually, my husband and I do now have a " tradition " - we go to a casino for

Christmas eve and Christmas Day!

We also have a great party to attend every New Year's Eve - 200 miles one way,

but worth it, at an old friend's home out in the boonies - very casual with lots

of great food. Most of the attendees don't drink, so we don't have to worry

about nutsy stuff happening, either.

Christmas has become so much about children, that if you don't have any, it's

not cool.

I asked dh if we could do some decorating this year, and he hung stockings on

the

fireplace! Oh, well - that's something.

We do have a collection of the Hallmark singing snowmen - get those out every

year. I like to turn them all on at once.

One of these years, I will just bring home a tree!

Martha,

If you can do it with out stressing, why not decorate yourself, without DH?
