It is also the source of many pioneering researches in HIV/AIDS, pandemic flu, diseases in high altitude areas and other fields. Around 500 military and civilian medical professionals from around twenty-five countries will be converging in the capital as part of The Sixteenth Asia Pacific Military Medicine Conference, from March 27-31 to discuss role of military in Civil, combat medicine, HIV /AIDS, Pandemic Flu and other issues. " There are so many kinds of threats like bio-terrorism, nuclear warfare, HIV/AIDS and old diseases that are back with a vengeance. These affect everybody, not just the military and it is important that we exchange notes on the researches done in these fields, " says Surgeon Vice Admiral Vijay K. Singh, director general of the Armed Forces Medical Services, India, talking about the conference. One of the most important aspects of the conference is that military medical professionals from various countries will be interacting with civilian counterparts from organisations like World Health Organisation, All-India Institute of Medical Sciences and Indian Council for Medical Research. As many as 257 scientific papers will be presented during the five- day conference. There will also be a scientific exhibition. http://www.hindu.com/thehindu/holnus/002200603261221.htm
