In reference to your comment:

ð cant 'picture' what 50-75 carbs means.

Normally i have very few if any carbs for breakfast as my bs is still up

around 140 with the dawn effect, and i don't want to push it higher....

So breakfast often is just protein.... and whatever fat is attached to it.

ie cold cut meat and or cheese ends.... left over meat that i had the night

before for dinner, breakfast sausage, or bacon, and or eggs.

Sometimes i make....

Egg casserole type things....

Here's a recipe

2 dz eggs,

2 lbs breakfast sausage bulk

one bag of frozen chopped onions

one bag of frozen chopped peppers

two bags of frozen stir fry veggies.

16 oz of sour cream

one cup of light cream

16 oz of shredded swiss cheese (or other cheese)

chopped walnuts, or other nuts (optional)

brown the sausage, then add in the onions and peppers, and veggies... cook

till tender.

beat the eggs, and add the sour cream and cheese, and cream and walnuts if

desired. then mix in the meat/veggies mixture.

Spray pam on muffin tins, or a 13/9/2 baking pan, and pour the mixture in

it/them.

pre heat oven to 350 and bake,

muffin tins 30 min

baking pan 60 min or so.

Remove from pan, if in large pan cut into squares.

Store in ziplock bags may freeze if you won't eat this many in a week.

I use this recipe for my roomie and i for a week.

We usually eat about 3-5 muffin tin ones in a meal.

salad. I often have some very thick vegetable soup (more like a stew) made

from meat stock, and vegetables, (low carb, low glycemic ones)

I don't usually count these, but when i do a spot check my day adds up to 30-

50grams or so.

Dinner, usually a meat steak roast, hamburger, chicken, etc... tomorrow is

scallops :)

I also will usuually cook 2 bags of frozen veggies, brussel sprouts, and or

mixed cauliflower, carrots, broccoli. my roomie and i each eat half of each

bag, with cheese whiz on it.

I rarely measure my protein or my veggies by weighting or measuring them but

YMMV, many do that. :)

today i had a Dunkin Donuts Duncacchino, which bumps my carbs way up for the

day, but only affects my bs for about 2 hrs. usually within 2 hrs i'm back

under 140, if not closer to 100.

My usual treats are 25 grams of carbs.... in the form of a scoop of icecream,

or a small piece of cake, or cookies, or candy or fruit.

for fruit i eat melon and berries, which are both lower in carbs, and in

glycemic index.

I never or VERY rarely eat potatoes, rice, pasta, bread, rolls, cereal, etc.

When you look at the carb content, you can subtract from the carb # the # of

grams of fiber.

With brussel sprouts i think the serving size = 7 grams of carb, but the

fiber is 5 grams so the total carb that counts is 2 grams of carb.

This is why veggies are great :)

I'm doing around 60 per day for awhile to loose 8 pounds, so here's what I

eat:

Atkins breakfast bar before or after chores (depending on fbg), Morningstar

veggie sausage patties (2) mid morning, Lean Cuisine type meal 30 carbs or

less for lunch, or a sandwich with low carb bread, pre-afternoon-exertion

snack of a small apple or orange with a little cottage cheese or a LC

tortilla with sharp cheddar melted in it, dinner is meat, fish, poultry or

veggie burgers and low carb vegetables.

There are, of course, quite a few variables, this is mostly what I like and

have time to make. If you're in to actually cooking, there are quite a few

great recipes in the shared files (url at the bottom of each message).

Another reason for running high blood glucose levels is an infection or

injury. Do you have either of these? Also if you are testing for a fasting

glucose level only once per day, this is probably not often enough. Your

high levels you report below could also be indicative of a rebound effect,

where during the night you experience an extreme low and your body kicks in

the blycogen, which raises your blood sugar level very high and very

rapidly. The rebound effect is the body's automatic way of dealing with

extreme low blood sugar levels in order to keep you from running out of fuel

and causing the heart to stop pumping, which requires a steady fuel supply.

Another way to have a rebound effect is to exercise to the point that all of

your available supply of glucose is used up in the blood stream, which can

also trigger the rebound effect when the blood glucose level gets too low.

If you dose too much short-acting insulin like Humalog or even if you use

too much long-acting insulin like Lantus, this can also trigger a rebound

effect. This is why achieving and maintaining a normal range between 70-120

is a real balancing act and all diabetics have to lern how to walk the tight

rope. This is why the fasting bs and the two hour post prandial bs are the

most important ones to know. For an exercise routine it would also be wise

for you to know your bs before exercising and again, what it is one hour

after you have completed your exercises. If you know these particular facts

about your body, then you can more easily regulate the amount of carbs you

need in order to stay balanced. Once you have established how many carbs

and how much insulin or oral medications to use, you could then safely

reduce the number of finger pricks you need to do each day. It would be

rare for a single blood sugar test once per day to keep you or any diabetic

balanced on the high wire.

Hi,

I would like to no where I can find a list for carb counting. If

anyone have this list as a word document or some sort, please send me

a copy. If there's a web sight that has this information I can down

load, I would accept that also. I really would appreciate the help with this.

I would like to no where I can find a list for carb counting. If

anyone have this list as a word document or some sort, please send me

a copy. If there's a web sight that has this information I can down

bare in mind though, this list of carbs in the text file is just to get a rough

idea. For example, it could say a bagel is 30 grams of carbs but you may have a

larger brand bagel that is at 60 carbs per bagel.

I always suggest to purchase the same carb foods at your local grocery store and

have a sighted person read to you how many carbs per serving. Folks at the

grocery store are willing to do this for you as a service so just tape

them/record them. Then keep a note pad text file of the brand of food and carb

counts per serving on your pc. This way, you *accurately* know how many carbs

are in the name brand foods you are eating.

That is very little in the way of carbs. What medication are you on? If

your blood sugars are still staying, it may mean that you need more

medication How are your BG doing 2 hours after eating?

Hi , The only medication that I'm on now is Glucophage or the

gernaric Metformen. 2000 milligrams per day. 1000 in the morning and 1000

in the evening. This dose has been working quite well up until now.
