NEPAL: " 15,000 Orphaned Annually Due to AIDS in Nepal "

On Saturday in Kathmandu, the director of the National AIDS and

Sexually Transmitted Disease Control Center said about 15,000 children

are orphaned by AIDS each year in Nepal. " The latest record states that

till the end of 2005, the number of HIV positive was already 70,000,

[of] which 22 percent were women in Nepal, " Shyam Sundar Mishra said at

a workshop entitled " HIV/AIDS Prevention and Women Leadership. " The

training, organized by the nongovernmental group Youth Power Nepal with

support from the United States Agency for International Development

Policy Project, sought to build female leadership and participation in

the fight against HIV/AIDS
