Guest guest
Victor: Have you examined or used a blood glucose monitor before (I mean one used by the sighted)? I ask only to ascertain your level of knowledge in order to know whether we should start at the beginning or whether we can just describe the specifics of using the VoiceMate that differ from those pertaining to regular glucose meters. In other words, I do not wish to burden you with stuff you already know. Mike > > Hi every one: > > I just got my talking meter. It is too many pieces and I feel intimidated where to start. Guest guest
You should have 2 very important pieces which are the Accucheck meter and the Voicemate synthersizer. The former is the smaller of the 2. I am trying to imagine how you are seeing this as being in many pieces so perhaps you also have the bottle of strips and code key, an ac adapter, and maybe a battery. It is really quite easy and you should be able to just find what fits where. The meter kind of slides into the Voicemate synthesizer along one of the narrow ends. A code key would normally be inserted in the rear of the meter but tit shouldn't be there and this end of the meter slides in first. The meter has 2 small smooth, and soft kind of feeling, buttons on the top and front, and just to the right is where the strip is inserted. I hope this helps and perhaps someone else can also help if you haven't been able to figure it out by now. Dave Accu check voice mate Hi every one: I just got my talking meter. Guest guest
Good show. I would suggest reading the tape; it gives good descriptions of all the components of the system except, perhaps, the Softclix lancet-dispensing device. That's the thing which looks like a pen. The thing at the top which would extend the pen-tip so you could write were it a pen cocks the thing so that when you punch the button on the side, the lancet (a very fine, sharp needle) springs out, pokes your finger to produce a tiny puncture wound and then springs back again. The end turns to set the depth of the puncture and can be removed to replace the lancet (a few come with the system but you can purchase them from your local pharmacy). You'll also have, as others have mentioned, a bottle of test strips and a code key (a little plastic thingy with an IC inside) which plugs either into the Accu-Chek itself if used by a sighted person or into the VoiceMate box; this tells the system everything it needs to know in order to use that batch of test strips. The print meter slides into the appropriate slot on the VoiceMate box. All this is described on the tape. Again, I urge you to listen to it; it will tell you what you need to know to start testing. Then read the tape again in about a month or so; you'll be surprised how much the hints make more sense the second time around. Hang in there; it'll become easier. Guest guest
Victor, It is really helpful to listen to the tape. I have a new diabetic friend who got one of the voice Mates and listened to the tape and put it together himself before he even called me-and he had it all correct!
