'Youth in 15-30 age group more prone to AIDS'

The valedictory function 'Surkahsit Jawan' - an AIDS awareness and prevention

programme among youth, launched by Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) was

recently held at Civil Lines, Nagpur

According to a press release, Justice (Retd.) A. A. Ginwala, was the Chief Guest

of the funciton. Hislop College registrar, Mohammed Rafiq, was the guest of

honour.

In his speech, Justice Ginwala lauded the efforts of YMCA, which intends to

create large scale awareness on prevention of HIV/AIDS among the youth in age

group of 15-30 years.

As this group is considered to be the most vulnerable age group, Justice Ginwala

urged the YMCA members to continue thier campaign in larger interest.

The guests also presented prizes to the winners of essay, skit and poster

competitions. The first, second and third winners of the essay competition

include Chetan Tijare, Abande and Swati Lambat respectively. Anand Dabali,

Bharati Kable, and Ashish Paleriya won first, second and third prizes in the

poster competition. Trupti Golecha and Suraj Bansod recieved consolation prizes.

The troupe led by Madhav and group from G. S. College of Commerce won skit

competition. The guest also honoured participants of Sharad Pawar Chitrakala

Mahavidyalaya for ensuring maximum entires for the AIDS poster competition.

During the occassion, a programme of dance to create awareness on AIDS was

presented by students of Dhanwate National College. The students of G. S.

College and Tidke Vidyalaya presented two skits on HIV/AIDS.

A prayer song was presented by the students of Patwardhan High School and St.

Ursula's Girls High School.

Earlier, General Secretary Nagpur YMCA and programme director, P.

Fernandes, made the introductory remarks. Ms. Pallavi Sontakke welcomed the

guests. Ms. Bhavana Sahani and Manpriya anchored the programme. Samir Shinde,

project assistant proposed the vote of thanks.
