Kirstie said: " Is Terry out of town? "

You guys must have esp! I actually was out of town most of the day, and I

still have 136 messages to read. Just before I bumped into Kirstie's

message, I was just thinking how the messages were beginning to take a

strange little turn . . . almost as though I'd been out of town!

You kids!

And, by the way, I've been playing Marbles for several weeks now, and my

highest score was somewhere in the 680 range. I can pretty consistently hit

300 to 500.

I never heard that most Native Americans were alcoholics, just that they can't handle their liquor. Their livers metabolize it differently. I'm married to one, BTW - he rarely drinks and very little if he does, because he can't handle it.

I must be stupid. Someone refresh my memory.

I thought that the original post that started this discussion was something

benign, roughly translated as " doesn't eating all this MEAT get dull? " I

assumed the poster was wondering how we could be content to eat so much meat

and so little anything else (a basic misunderstanding of the whole Atkins

concept, but pretty widely misunderstood nonetheless).

And then, I thought that Jerome misunderstood THAT statement and thought

that it said " eating meat makes YOU dull " . Which, I just chalked up to a

misuderstanding arising from issues related to lingual/cultural barriers and

the possibility that English is not the first language of Jerome, who

judging from his e-mail address is perhaps living somewhere in the

Philippines.

Actually, when I first read 's post about vegetarian eating, I noticed

right off that she said that any diet, done incorrectly, will likely cause

medical problems. I agreed with her wholeheartedly and thought it was great

that she pointed out that fact. And, I find it admirable that she is

helping a loved one to live and eat in a way that differs so much from her

own preferred way to eat. That shows a remarkable commitment.

I did get a chuckle when someone asked who I was! I guess I haven't been

opening my big mouth enough around here lately. How soon you kids forget

your old list mom! And, hey! I was only 100 miles away from home today.

Yes, it was definitely a series of misunderstandings - but it certainly made for good list reading today!

,

I'm not going out of town tomorrow, so everyone knows they have to behave!

LOL! Welcome to the list . . . . looks like you've had a trial by fire.

We're usually much nicer to the new kids. I think everyone's been suffering

from carb withdrawals and we're just a teeny bit cranky after the holidays!

Tomorrow is a new day . . . and a better day. You'll do fine around here,

. Don't sweat it!

Sorry , no one did say you are dull or boring. I think you made that assumption out of my statement which I just mentioned that I got the info from a site.

Re: new member

Well, no one can say I'm dull (boring) It was my first day. How was my GRAND introduction? I really didn't mean to stir things up so.

C Wolfert,

I can give you some excellent links that will tell you a lot more about what

is allowed on this WOE. I hope you'll decide to stay and not just

everyone's attitude by the remarks of one person. By and large, our group

here is extremely helpful.

Take a look at this link, which will tell you some menu plans for foods for

the 2 week Induction period:

Turtle Menues:

/files/Atkins_Support_List/TurtlePlan1.txt

As you can see, dairy is allowed. Cheese, cream, butter. Just not regular

milk, or skim milk, or low fat milk. And you just have to be sure to count

the carbs in it.

Please feel free to ask any time you have a question.

,

Now that the storm's over, I'd just like to say welcome! :) I'd also

like to say that I disagree that staying at induction levels is

unhealthy. Many of us continue to stay at 20 or fewer carbs. Dr. Atkins

says this is fine, as long as one is healthy. That's all!
