THANKS Y'ALL > PATTI : ) Just be careful Patti - I spoke with Dr. Bain not so long ago about someone else in my state doing interviews to get a thyroid doctor, and he said that he would never answer questions over the phone about hypothetical patients or how he would go about treating them..he said he feels there is something inherently unethical about saying how you would treat a patient before they have even been seen...in addition, he would never admit over the phone to someone what his beliefs about TSH, testing, not asking for testing, going by symptoms, etc. He is even very careful about how he words the fact that he prescribes natural homrones on his website...he does not want it to sound like a promise if indeed that person is not someone who needs thryoid, for instance. his office manager plays everything very close to the vest as well...so if other doctors are this way, you need to word your questions very carefully - remember, they do not know who they are really talking to, and therefore are never going to say anything that could possibly open them up for a lawsuit or have their license threatened. There are too many synthroid pushers out there who might want to make some sort of trouble for doctors like him.

I > PATTI : ) Here's my first holistic MD...he had been a psychiatrist and in 1989 opened up one of the first holistic practices here in the western chicago suburbs. He got tired of prescribing antidepressants and psyche drugs to pateints who really needed hormones and/or to be treated for hypoglycemia, and other conditions and given vitamins, nutrients and supplements. I am with Dr. Bain now because he takes my insurance...Dr. Filice did not, but does give you the Armour prescription for a year, so you don't have to go back that often. To me, this man is a genius and very up on all of the state-of-the-art research and medical/holistic breakthroughs. Guest guest
I know its not the same thing but one time when I was at the vets office with my doggie this man came in with a stool sample. Turns out his dog hadn't been there in over a year and they told him they could look at the sample but legally they couldn't prescibe anything. They had to have seen the dog in the past year before they could prescribe medication. Hopefully the same rule would apply to people Drs. Louise PS Personally I don't know how much you can learn by calling them. With my Drs office there would be no way to talk to her directly because she is so busy. Sometimes you just need to go and see them so you can get an idea what they are like. > > Just be careful Patti - I spoke with Dr. Bain not so long ago about > someone else in my state doing interviews to get a thyroid doctor, > and he said that he would never answer questions over the phone about > hypothetical patients or how he would go about treating them..he said > he feels there is something inherently unethical about saying how you > would treat a patient before they have even been seen...in addition, > he would never admit over the phone to someone what his beliefs about > TSH, testing, not asking for testing, going by symptoms, etc. He is > even very careful about how he words the fact that he prescribes > natural homrones on his website...he does not want it to sound like a > promise if indeed that person is not someone who needs thryoid, for > instance. his office manager plays everything very close to > the vest as well...so if other doctors are this way, you need to word > your questions very carefully - remember, they do not know who they > are really talking to, and therefore are never going to say anything > that could possibly open them up for a lawsuit or have their license > threatened.
