Guest guest
MM All, I ate lunch with my oldest son today; he is taking Efexor for depression. It is a serotonin re-uptake agent-----meaning that it actually helps the serotonin do what it is supposed to do. I got to thinking about melatonin and serotonin and both are hormones and produced by the pineal gland. Since hypothyroidism affects melatonin would it not stand to reason that it would affect serotonin. Since all of the endocrine glands are interdependent, does it not make sense that the pineal gland could be affected too? The pineal gland is an endocrine gland but I see precious little info about it in the hypothyroid books I have. Any thoughts or information--------because my son wants to be tested for hypothyroidism. He also has panic attacks and is really high strung and easily loses his temper------I told him his thyroid just may come back normal " so do you guys suggest a saliva test for him? He may be 35 but he is still my baby and for him to even consider having his thyroid tested is a big step forward!
