Guest guest
Where do you live Bev? We have wood heat also(we sell firewood for a living),if my electric furnace kicked on I'd probley jump 10 feet in the air it's been so long since it's been on. We're supposed to be getting a doozy of a storm in our area,2-3 ft here in the mtn's of West Central Idaho, and I live in a little mountain town, don't even have a stop light. Keep warm! Shirley Dealing with the Cold Hi EveryOne, We have wood stoves heating our house, we only turn on the oil rarely, and as it gets colder outside it requires more and more wood, much more often, to keep the temperature warm enough in the house. I think it is the same for me:-)) Since it has gotten so cold outside, I have changed the way I take my Armour in an attempt to stay warmer all day. I take one grain in the morning when I wake up. Then I split the next one or two into 1/2 grain doses spread every three or four hours until dinner time. It helps! Sometimes I take three grains in total, a couple of times it has turned out to be 3 1/2 in order to get in that 1/2 grain before bed that helps me sleep better. I plan to keep this up as long as it is so cold outside. Why the cold outside makes a difference in how fast the wood burns inside or how fast the Armour burns in me is a mystery to me but it does make a difference. When it gets warmer, I will go back to taking my Armour in one grain doses, less often. In the meantime I now am warm all day:-)) Took a 5mg. Cortef (Hydrocortone) today in cottage cheese and it doesn't seem to be bothering my stomach so maybe I will try Isocort in the am and Cortef in the early afternoon for awhile. More snow on it's way tommorrow and the next day. Sure is beautiful as long as you can stay warm.....stay warm everyone:-)) Peace, Love and Harmony, Bev Thyroid-Adrenal Connection: Information and Resources http://www.bestweb.net/~om/thyroid Pure n' Natural Skin Care http://www.om.lbrionline.com/

Guest guest
Bev, To increase the temp in the home, or to maintain the temp of your body, requires the consumption of fuel... For the word burning stove... to provide enough BTUs of heat requires that the amount of wood must increase to provide enough heat to counter the cold outside. (BTU is a unit of measurement for heat.. British Thermal Units) For us... it's our metabolic rate that helps us to produce heat to keep our body temps up... If your metabolic rate is too low that means that your body is not able to burn enough calories (the fuel source that we use to make heat and energy).. If you find that increasing the frequency of your thyroid dosing decreases the discomfort in the cold weather.. it's a good sign that your metabolic rate is still too low... suggesting that you should continue with the more frequent dosing, whether it's cold or not....or perhaps increase your dose.... I have found that less thyroid is needed with multi-dosing... because less of it is wasted.. your body gets 'more bang for the buck' as it were, when you keep it coming in smaller amounts.. on the same principle that smaller more frequent meals are better digested by the body then just one or two large ones.... ....gosh.. just a melting pot of trivia am I! *wink* Topper () On Mon, 26 Jan 2004 16:09:26 -0500 (Eastern Standard Time) " *~ OM ~* " writes: > Hi EveryOne, > > We have wood stoves heating our house, we only turn on the oil > rarely, and > as it gets colder outside it requires more and more wood, much more > often, > to keep the temperature warm enough in the house. Guest guest
Hi , Shirley and EveryOne, Thanks for the feedback, it helps me clarify what is going on:-)) You can never see something with your nose on it! Today I took one grain of Armour and 4 tabs of Isocort in the am, then 5mg. of Cortef and 1 grain of Armour around 3pm and it is keeping me warm through the late afternoon and early evening. Still have a half grain of Armour after dinner and another half before bed. Perfect:-)) May try to take 5mg Cortef in the am too, tomorrow. So that would be three grains of Armour and 10mg. of Cortef / day. Still experimenting:-)) If the Cortef doesn't work in the am for me, I will stay with the 4 Isocort in the am and the 5mg. Cortef in the early afternoon. BTW My metabolism is still slow just as said. I had one piece of Chocolate Cake and one glass of red wine with my Birthday dinner (Indian Vegetarian, no rice) a few days ago and I am still trying to take off the two pounds I gained that night! Sigh! Temps around high 97s or low 98s all day. Normal only at night. We are expecting the snow storm tonite that some of you have already had. I live in New York state about 30 miles north of New York City along the Hudson River in a village called Croton-on-Hudson. We are expecting almost a foot of snow over the next day or so........ Stay warm and happy everyone:-)) Peace, Love and Harmony, Bev
Guest guest
Well Happy belated birthday, Bev!!! Sounds like your furnace did need a wee bit more fuel! Cool! Lower temps earlier in the day.. followed by normal temps later in the day...are still suggesting weak adrenals.. but you're already working on that... so just keep listening to your body... and tattle to the rest of us on what you hear!!! hehehehehe Hey, you're in New York.. Ever heard of a city called lin? My dad's lady lives there.. well, she still owns a house there, and her family is there.. but she mostly lives with us.... Small world!
