AIDS Conf., Toronto and Accompanying Persons, It is my pleasure to inform you that Peoples Health Organisation (India) has been assigned the task of Managing the South Asia Networking Zone in the Global Village at the Toronto Conference, with other two NGOs: Alliance for South Asian AIDS Prevention from Canada and the Global Youth Coalition on HIV/AIDS from Nepal. PHO is one of the first NGOs from India that started the fight against AIDS since 1985 and known for its innovative strategies in HIV awareness globally. You are most welcome to be part of this Networking Zone formally and non-formally. If you did not get any chance from the Toronto Conference to show your skills and talents, please do not be disheartened. There are ample opportunities to portray your art, skills and expertise at the Global village in general and our Networking Zone in particular. Objectives of the NETWORKING ZONE: • Encourage networking between and among various stakeholders (including delegates, Conference speakers, general public, community-based sector and media); • Provide you with a platform to get your key messages across to a wider audience throughout the Conference week; • Provide you and your colleagues a space in which to mobilize yourselves, to plan around your Conference and post-Conference activities. Activities: Small discussions/workshops, information displays, video screenings, performances, educational demonstrations are some activities you could think of performing. We’ll have a dedicated lounge/seating area for more informal discussions in our zone. The following Workshops are already planned: 1) People with HIV/AIDS (PHA) SPEAKERS BUREAU 2) IMMIGRATION & HIV 3) MSM Health 4) COMPLIMENTARY/ALTERNATIVE THERAPIES 5) Prevention Education Strategies on HIV for the youth by the youth 6) Women & HIV: Mother & Child transmission female, microbicides, targetting women in HIV responses etc. Some more India specific, ART specific workshops can be added. SOCIAL EVENTS and Other Activiti/es: 1) SOCIAL EVENT – Indian Delegates meeting/get-together 2) THEATRE NIGHT 3) Thematic Exhibition/Exhibits 4) FILM NIGHT 5) Bring your favourite Hindi songs and play in a foreign land with a bang 6) Graffiti Board – to express yourself 7) Expression Corner 8) Meet your Heroes 9) Organise Demonstration on certain key issues constructively 10) The Hot Topic of the Day Highlights: 1) Entry to Global Village is Free of Charge – both for registered delegates and others (No registration is required to participate in the activities of Networking zone) 2) Wide range of Time slot: 8 am to 8 pm from 14th to 17th August, 8am to 5 pm on 13th August and 8 am to 1 pm on 18th August. 3) You can enter and leave the area anytime 4) You can make our zone as your meeting point to catch hold of each others from your areas/groups at this Mega-Conference If you have any suggestions, comments, ideas to make the South Asia Networking Zone worthy, please do contact me at the earliest possible.
