Guest guest
I too gain so easily now and it frustrates the day-lights out of me. I went away for a weekend with the junior girls from our church to camp. I did drink pop and have snacks...but nothing so absolutely out of control to gain the five pounds that I gained. I am kinda stumped as to why I still have this problem in this area. I know that our metabolism slows way down at 40, but this is ridiculous. Does anyone have any suggestions to increase the metabolism? I am on 360 mgs of Armour split into 4 doses perday, along with a multi-vitamin that contains 200mcgs of Selenium and a host of other great vitamins/minerals, I take Adrenal support with raw bovine in it. I feel great, have lots of energy and am sleeping so much better. I know that working out is very important but it is finding the time to actually do that. Right now I work out 2 x's per week with my sister in law. We do the 2 mile work out by Sansone (it is excellent) then I do the Gazelle and total gym. I feel great afterward...I see a weight stabilization yet if I go off just a little in my eatin habits I pay a big penalty. Is this normal? What can I do to change this? I never ever had a weight problem until my thyroid took it's major dump. Does anyone have any suggestions from their experiences? I am open to anything. Should I lower my carbs? What? Thanks for anyhelp!! PattiSue Re: Dealing with the Cold/Happy birthday, Bev!! > BTW My metabolism is still slow just as said. Sigh! Bev, you still may not be on your optimal dose of Armour! When I finally got there, a big clue was that what normally caused me to gain weight, ceased!! I maintain my weight, and that started last December! YEEHAW!!!! Janie aka ThyroDiva p.s. And HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Mine is coming--Texas Independence Day. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes, our metabolism falls steady. But a falling metabolism is also connected to muscle loss, so whatever we can do to promote muscle development is a plus. I take testosterone, and that has helped muscle buildup when I use my muscles. Also, eating smaller meals and more often helps rev up that metabolism. And yes, eating less carbs plays a part. Carbs, especially the high- glycemics (such as the white ones--sugar, potatoes, flour, etc.) turn into sugar when digested. Then your body is forced to produce a high amount of insulin to help transport that sugar where it's needed. And guess what insulin is--a FAT STORAGE HORMONE. So, the more insulin you have to produce, the more fat are ARE going to store. And finally, movement. It has to be done.
