Somehow, I missed this.

Is B1 effective in keeping mosiquitos away?

My histamine level is high so when I get bit,

I get welts and the itching is unbearable.

Thanks,

Oh woe is me! I meant to save the post about Vitamin B1 and something

else for mosquitos. It also had the dosage. But I can't find it.

Would whoever posted that please post again?

Sorry to be OT

Take about 200 (mcg? mg? what every the tabs are set at, they're all the

same but it eludes me at the moment) about 30 minutes before being

exposed to mosquitos.. then 100 every couple of hours as long as you are

exposed.

The B1, to remind you, is released in the sweat, breath and urine.. so

you won't OD on it... and you are gonna pee bright yellow.

We have enough illness issues to deal with without mosquito born diseases

adding to the mix... so, not that far off topic, IMHO.

It doesn't work for everyone.. but it helps a lot of folks.. as the B1 is

released in the breath and sweat the body scent is changed just enough

for the mosquitos to not think us tasty.. but we don't notice it.

The trick is to take it before you go out into the skeeters.. and to keep

replenishing the supply while you are out there. Still stick to wearing

dark clothes at night.. and light during the day.. but adding to B-1 to

that can be a life saver... with west nile, that's even a literal

statement now. For those that respond well to it that means EVERY teeny

bit of your body is protected.. not just where the spray hits.

Worth trying.. to see how well it works for you.. just keep in mind that

it will make your urine a bright yellow at these high doses... if you are

going bright yellow... I'd go to every hour rather than every two hours.

This works so well for me, that during the 5 years I worked for Metro

Mosquito Control in our state I was not allowed to take extra B-1.. part

of our job in the field was to do bite counts to check the effectiveness

of our treatment programs.. when I was doing extra B-1 my bite counts

were off... I would get one or two bites when fellow crew were standing

near me and getting 30 and 40 (these counts were taken, mostly, in the

swamps).. and that was residual effects from taking it the night before!
