Guest guest
Dear All, Its not only Mizoram that they cover HIV+ve body with polythene when they die. It also a practice in Manipur from way back in late 80 to till date. Its not only humiliating Its INHUMANITY. Does anybody covered their dead body in polythene in the past? I hope someday we can die with dignity and respect Insolidarity Mike Tonsing DNP+ e-mail: <mtonsing2003@...>
Guest guest
Dear Mike & the FORUM, I was indeed shocked to read abut the use of Polythene to wrap the dead bodies. What was the genesis of its use? Was polythene used for any positive person with diarrhoea initially? I cannot beleive that with so much of HIV AIDS work being done the problem of totally unwarranted stigma has been created (in some cases inadvertantly) & it continues. With all the HIV/AIDS work that has been done in Manipur, how could this happen & as you say, it continues and is practised also in Meghalaya. Maybe all stigmas in society should be addressed & probably many more will join to address them. Stigma faced by persons with leprosy,TB , mental problems , childlessness of women, widows and CSW's What is the situation & what are the challenges faced by the wives of positive people ? With warm regards and in solidarity. Dr Mira Shiva A-60 HAUZ KHAS NEW DELHI 110016 e-mail: <mirashiva@...>
