Guest guest
Dear FORUM, It is such a pity to know that you need an US expert as a faculty as if our country doen not have experts in HIV/AIDS. How long these poor Indians keep on licking the boots of white skinned people of US and Europe. There should be an end to it. May be these poor Indians like to smell dollars by inviting the rich Americans. I see this disease is more virulent and infectious than HIV/AIDS in India. Please publish this mail of mine. It is important to convey this strong message to the spineless people of this unfortunate country. with lot of sorrow and pain, Nilim Nilim Gangopadhyay e-mail: <nilim_g4@...>
Guest guest
Dear All, Actually in my understanding there was demand from organiser for the US expert working in the rehabilitation field of HIV AIDS patients as in our country, we are still struggling with the availability of treatment only. This is a new concept coming up and USA has a well defined cohort of AIDS patients of last 25 years. very few persons globally are working on the medical rehabilitation of AIDS patients (for example vision loss due to CMV or with neurological disorders) how to improve the quality of life among them and how to socially, psychologically and economically rehabilitate them. What is the rehabilitative model they have developed if any. We know there is no dearth of our own Indian talents and almost all basic research in field of ART drug development and work at genetic level (whether it is fusion inhibitors) in USA is being done by Indian scientists, but at the same time we have to admit that some concepts are novice for us and there may be some advanced understanding in US, not because of their talent but because of the resources that they have and because of the long AIDS patients cohort they have. Guest guest
Dear FORUM, This is in response to Dr. Gilada's observations. Re: Call for a US Faculty to lecture on Rehabilitation of PLWHA While acknowledging your expertise and contributions in last two decades, and also being a silent follower and having heard of your fame since I also got into the field of public health in 1991, I am sure the organisers of the workshop have only asked for one US or a foreign faculty. This does not imply overt dependence on such experts. I am sure that number of Indians will be at least 100 if not more at the venue. And I complement the organisers to have been ahead of their time to think about rehabilitation of PLHA, when the world is only talking of ARTs & Prevention What IHO in Patna has done for Bihar and NE, in last 3 years is as commendable a model that's need to be replicated in other parts of India. Today, the world is only focused on Maharastra, TN, Kartnatka and Gujarat. Hoping, Hon. Laloo Yadav may read this and is awakened to lead this effort in Bihar. Guest guest
Dear FORUM, I agree with Dr. Ratti's explanation that calling foreign experts doesn't mean " over dependence " . I would say its a healthy practice to keep interacting to facilitate exchange of information, experiences and expertise- the so-called 'cross fertilisation' process, but of course provided the local experts also play an equal role (rather lead). On the other hand I am not sure the if call was for non-US foreign experts also. It would be very interesting to look out for experts from other developing countries in Asia or Africa that have similar contexts. Besides this I am sure IHO is doing a great job and so is the contribution of Dr. Gilada. We are all cogs of the same wheel with a common objective- war against HIV! Cheers!
