Guest guest
I just got my test results back from my year end physical. My only mess-up was taking my Armour about an hour before the test...I didn't read the thread about not taking meds before testing until after I had the lab work done...oh well, I'll know better next time! Anyway my TSH is 0.004 (range 0.35 -5.50) - in July 2003 (before treatment) it was 2.51(which still isn't considered high) - I finally found my other lab work papers. My free T3 is 4.5 (range 2.3 -4.2) - in July 2003 (before treatment) it was 3.0. My free T4 is 1.1 (range 0.8 - 1.8) - in July 2003 (before treatment) it was 1.2. The best part is that my cholesterol is 181 and in July it was 224. This just proves what I've read about untreated hypothyroidism causing elevated cholesterol...I haven't changed my diet much...pretty much a see food diet so the lowering of the cholesterol I contribute to the Armour! We did not test for the count on the APO antibodies again...we figured that once they're there, they're there for life. The APO antibodies were 172 in July. The new Dr. wrote a note on the new lab papers that my TSH is too high and that I need to get with my endo the adjust the dose...why would I want to do that?? I feel great!! The ex-Dr. (the one who missed my thyroid condition for over 10 years!!) had written on the last lab papers that I needed to go on a low-fat diet and exercise to get my cholesterol down. I told her I don't believe in low-fat diets, and that I would exercise when she treated my thyroid condition so I had the energy to exercise. Her nurse really didn't like that when I told her that on the phone...she even wrote on the lab notes that " patient refuses to do low fat diet " ...LOL! I'm open for any comments or suggestions about the lab values from the voices of experience... Also, something interesting. A friend of mine called me this evening and told me that her doctor had just called her and said that at her year-end physical the bloodwork showed she has a problem with her thyroid. It showed her TSH to be 40...no wonder she feels so badly. She said her Dr. told her she had called her in a prescription that would help. I asked her if it was $ynthoid and she said yes. I asked her to call her Dr. back and ask her for Armour and I would explain to her why when she called me back after getting with her Dr. (it was 5:00pm then). She called back and told me later that her Dr. said it would be no problem to make it Armour instead if that's what she wanted to do...sounds like a great Doc to me!! I explained the hows and whys of Armour to her and explained about doing it sublingually. I am looking forward to helping her get to feeling better. I mentioned to her that when she goes back for bloodwork in 6 weeks to ask to have the thyroid antibodies checked also...might as well be sure. If I can pass on anything I've learned about this condition and help someone else feel better I feel like I've done something positive in the world!! Guest guest
That is true, Dave, but I made a point of standing real straight. Besides, I have noticed that even petite length pants are too long! At least I am not as bad as my mother. She was 5 ft.5 and is now shorter than I am! (she is 84) Re: test results Pat, For a couple of years, when they would measure my height, as part of my annual physical, I thought I had lost an inch or even a little more. But, I realized something 2 years ago. It occurred to me that I was not standing straight, i.e. I was slumping slightly, therefore my measurement was not accurate. When I stood straight, it felt a bit unnatural, wouldn't you know it, I was still 5 feet 8 inches tall! I suppose one could argue that your real time height is how tall you are when you slump, if that is your natural state as an older person, but I would argue that you can't make yourself any taller than your bones/frame really are. The bottom line is perhaps, as we age, we need to be conscious of our slumping posture, and therefore work to stand, and sit, more erect. Dave test results Yesterday I went to the endo and learned all my test results. The A1 C was 5.7 Total cholesterol 171 HDL 85 LDL 69 Triglcerides 100 Creatinine is 2.4-down from 2.9 Everything else was normal! Made me very happy. Theonly bad thing was that they measured me-for the first time in a very long time-and I shrunk an inch! I am now 5 ft.1.Very depressing (literally)!
