Dear Kim,

I saw your post about the Cymbalta. You said it made you gain weight?

Is that true? The new doc that is going to shut me off of my meds

(well we all know which meds I mean), just gave me Cymbalta.

I haven't started it to date, but was supposed to already.

I specifically asked him if it made one gain weight and he said no. My

doc has left the pain center and won't be at her new place at a general

PCP until July 1st. I have been with her for 6 years and can't wait to

find her again. I knew what was going to happen with the new doc even

before I walked in there.

But I was just curious how long you were on the Cymbalta for or anyone

else that cares to comment.

I have some doctor lists that I will look on and see if there are any

in TN, but I really don't know. I know one list that was out

specifically for docs that would give meds was shut down. Gee wonder,

why.

Thanks,

~THis is interesting. I thought I read somewhere that

Cymbalta is an appetite depressant (as a side effect)

But since I have been on it~about 4 mos. My weight has

continued to creep up. It's one of those things for me

though where I don't knnow which problem is related to

what?!? I wish we could get a more definitive answer

from someone out there?

My kidney doctor prescribed Cymbalta for my upper back pain and

depression. I took it for a month and since I was still depressed

he advised me to double the dose. After a few days, I developed a

severe headache and nausea. This did not suprise me as I have tried

other antidepressants in the past which caused similar side

effects.

Unfortunately, I gained 14 lbs. in a very short period of time so I

didn't mind stopping the Cymbalta. Very quickly after stopping the

Cymbalta the pain exacerbated to the point I thought I literally

couldn't deal with it. I'm not a crier, but I was on the verge of

tears for weeks.

Two weeks ago I started a low dose of Effexor. The pain has

improved and I've lost 6 lbs. The depression is abating...probably

because I'm losing weight. I have very little appetite. I'm

supposed to double the dose this week and am hoping I can tolerate

the higher dose.

Everyone is different but I hope this info helps a little.

Snow
