has always had it stated in his IEP that he is to have an aide on the

bus - his situation could change at any time and the driver would not always

know that. He also has seizures, though.

Hi Janelle,

There is an aide on my kids' bus. The only reason she's on there

though is because has a trach. In the past we didn't automatically

have an aide, but I would have started pushing for one due to the fact that

both kids are in wheelchairs. Who cares if your child is doing fine now,

its that (God forbid) one emergency that the aide is needed that is

important!! Keep relaying safety and liability issues to them and maybe

they will listen. :) Good luck...

Hi Janelle,

There has always been an aide on my son's bus. Also, I am a Special Ed

administrator here in NJ and we always have aides on the buses we send out.

Janelle,

Wow, I am even impressed you got an associate on the bus with your

child!!!

My son had such behaviors last year and I wanted someone to ride and do a

behavior analysis and I got no one. Head of elementary special ed rode with

him 4 times. I end up training the bus drivers. I am not sure of why your

daughter needed

the aide. Was it for mediacl reasons? My friends daughter sits in the back

of the bus and just had a seizure on the bus and arrived lethargic. But left

home just fine. She got accused of sending her daughter to school sick!! NO

clue!! I'd be asking myself and the aide-what is she doing for her? If you

OK no aide then what happens if whatever happened before that you got one.

I'll share this. My wrap around aide

took a week vacation and my son regressed terribly when left with 3 aides in

he=is classroom. The problem is that she is in charge of him-the xchool

district people should be learning from her-but they think he is hers.PERIOD.

Well I've just spent 2 weeks coming up with behavior plans around problems

with eating. They all told me to call the Dr. I believe he regressed

because they screwed up. So make sure

if you lose this person, who did she train-the bus driver? Or will she go

downhill when her support system gets taken away from her. Kathy F

All of the special ed. busses in our district have an assistant as well as a

bus driver on each bus. We have 25,000 students in our district with a

large special ed. population. When was an inclusion student at her

neighborhood school and rode the regular bus with a special stop at our

house, there was no assistant. Now that she is in a special ed. class at

another school, there is an assistant on the bus. There is no way, with the

issues that your daughter has that I would feel that a driver could take

care of her needs and still drive-you just never know what is going to

happen. Good Luck, ML

Hello, I received some e-mail addressed to someone other than myself. Is

this just some of the messages for the Mitoonelist? I was just

wondering. I have MRS and I jerk a lot, sometimes no-one can see me do it,

but I feel it. My friend timed me one time, and I jerked about every 16

seconds after I went into a deep sleep. This past Friday morning I woke,

soooo swelled-up, you couldn't even recognize me. I loose my voice all the

time and have terrible headaches. If this is a message board, somebody,

please respond to my message. I need some support. I've been suffering for

years. Thank you, and I hope that everyone will correspond with me.
