Guest guest
<I like your positive attitude, but I don't think writing an editorial to the Post would be helpful.> Ann, I disagree. We're not writing an editorial. It's going to be short and sweet but get the point across. I believe a full-page ad in the Post will generate both local and national appeal. Since this is a political issue that deals with children, I think it will attract national media attention. Since this isn't done that often, it makes it very appealing. I think it'll cause local media to respond after seeing some of their " local " names in the ad. The primary goal is to get the attention of politicians...to get them to vote for the Burton-Waxman Bill. Our secondary goal is to make our point by educating millions of people. Guest guest
Speaking of the Post, The Washinton Post ran an interesting article front page of the metro section today. US COUNTS ONE IN 12 CHILDREN AS DISABLED One of every dozen U.S. childern and teenagers-5.2 million-has a physical or mental disability, according to new figures from the 2000 census. You can probably see the full story at their website. Of course the article fails to mention the general link to environmental toxins including thimersol, even though the article mentions autisim. Poverty and " previous underdiagnosis " are cited as strong factors contributing to the rise in physical and mental disabilites. Perhaps some editorals to the post explaining the real cause of increasing childhood disabilites would be appropriate and effective. Beware though, the post is a tough nut to crack. They have systematically resisted printing ANY editorials on the amalgam issue and as you may know have pooh pawed the thimersol issue from the beginning. Perhaps the new " offical " census data will help to change that. Or, maybe money is the only way to get the Post to print the truth. cz

Guest guest
cz, I like your positive attitude, but I don't think writing an editorial to the Post would be helpful. I guess I'm enough of a media cynic to suspect that they would carefully screen out editorial comments that intelligently address mercury issues. Mainstream media rarely do any real investigative reporting of hot medical issues. Typically, they just call up someone from the CDC, NIH or such and interview them. Then they " report " what the " experts " say. IMHO, as long as medical diagnosticians can get away with symptomatic labels out of the DMS-4 (such as autism, learning disabilities, ADD, PDD-NOS), and ignore possible causes, there will be little progress in this area. There's no pressure on practitioners to actually identify etiologies such as heavy metals toxicity or pathogens in the gut. In fact, those who do are often harrassed by licensure boards. Sorry if my input is very negative, but I think we all need to spend our time and energy very wisely. We're up against some pretty nasty powers.....and we need to win this fight.
