Guest guest
Hi Dave. purchase a count a dose unit from www.maxiaids.com that clicks for each unit of insulin it pulls out of the vile. It costs around $50 and any people who use insulin shots use it. Another option is to use insulin pens that let you draw out insulin via a pen type gadget and those click for each unit as well. Most though use a count a dose unit which is specially created for blind diabetics. HTH Regards, need info > I have been a type 2 diabetic for 15 years. > But now my control is slipping. > more medication and more exercise is nolonger doing the job. > So My questions are these. > What is the easiest way for a blind person to give himself a shot. > How does he measure the medication? > And what kinds of insulin are used and when? > I want to get in the habit of giving my onself the shots because I don't > want to place that burdin on my wife. > if someone can give me this information, or point me to where I can find > i I would greatly appreciate it. > Dave. >

Guest guest
Hi Dave: I don't know if anyone has answered your question yet about measuring your own insulin or not. I think that the company is called Medicool or something like that but there is a really neat little device called a count-a-dose that can be used for a totally blind person to measure insulin. It is hard to describe but there is a little wheel and each click counts as one unit of insulin. The needle sits in this little groove, and there is a place for two bottles of insulin if you have to mix your own. A cassette comes with the unit and gives very good instructions on how to use it. I think that the count-a-dose can also be purchased through national foundation for the blind. I think that is correct. Hope this helps. Love and hugs, and the furry ones. need info I have been a type 2 diabetic for 15 years. But now my control is slipping. more medication and more exercise is nolonger doing the job. I want to get in the habit of giving my onself the shots because I don't want to place that burdin on my wife. if someone can give me this information, or point me to where I can find i I would greatly appreciate it. What were the a1c, lipid, and bp numbers at the start and how they changed? What modifications in lifestyle such as diet and exercise etc. did you make and what effect? Did you use after meal bg levels to make diet and exercise decisions? What was the med usage history? On one of the newsgroups I read a frequent topic has been to what degree can one forstall use of insulin and/or even avoid meds completely by diet and exercise. Some think they can arrest the course of type 2 diabetes by strict control of bg, especially the after meal levels. Having been a type 2 for several years, what are your thoughts on this? Thanks, Dan xv ic|xc
