Do not schedule a hysterectomy. Get a 2nd or 3rd opinion. You say this

doctor is a " he. " Since he has no uterus I wouldn't take his word about what

causes orgasm in women. What does your age have to do with it? If my fibroids

grow back (I'm 41) I will insist on keeping my uterus.

Carolyn,

A uterus of this size is not very big.Do you have symptoms? Heavy

bleeding,pain,urinary

frequency,bowel problems?

If you do then you should most definitely look into alternatives to

hysterectomy.If you don't you may

want to take a little more time to see what happens.

But certainly this size uterus and a hysterectomy recommendation to my mind is

absurd.But I am sure

you will hear lots more from other members of the group.So stay posted.

I am 43 and had a myomectomy in October and I feel great(and I

still have all my pieces). My surgeon is Dr. Stanley West, author

of " The Hysterectomy Hoax " . I had visited with 2 other gyns (one

male and one female) who could only recommend hysterectomy as a cure

for my benign fibroids.

There are quite a few options available to " women of our age "

other than hysterectomy. Please do some research - and get yourself

a second opinion (or third or forth) before you consent to

hysterectomy. A hysterectomy should only be used as a last resort if

all else fails. I have included links to a couple of excellent

get a second and a third and as many opinions as you need, what you may not

need is a hysterectomy. Change doctors too, he sounds like he doesn't know

much. Just my opinion. .

I am having a myomectomy tomorrow- laparoscally (sp) - A hysterectomy only if

my uterus is a real mess. I have found very little on sexual response, but

there may be an effect if you have vaginal orgasms. I have had fibroids for

8 years before I had surgery to remove them. I waited until they had to be

removed.
