Guest guest
I'm not a medical expert, but it's my understanding that it's the ENTERAL BAGS (i.e., feeding tubes & the actual feeding that goes in the tubes) that could contain gluten. If you go to Google.com and type in key word GLUTEN IV BAGS, you should get some info. I believe that they are called IVF bags. I don't know if all hospitals etc. stock these feeding bags, or if they must special order. If someone was in dire need of tube feeding, I suppose they'd have to accept a regular one until GF versions could be brought it. That just sounds like a miserable situation. (I work in the nursing home industry as a consultant & I know that I've never heard a family request this for their loved one... but they probably don't know about it either). I've just recently learned about this. So, the answer to your question... I've never heard of any regular IV fluid bags that contain gluten. Guest guest
I was in the hospital overnight a little over a year ago and had to have an IV bag with just the regular electrolytes and glucose. I talked to the nurse about whether it had gluten and she and I read the ingredients off the bag and it did not. I am sure there are other types of IV bags (containing different ingredients) but this is the most commonly used one that I had. I also talked to them about the rubber gloves if they were dusted inside and they were not. ita
