Re: Can Nystatin and other antifungals cause more seizures?`

Hi Kandy

I'm not sure of the correlation between anti-yeast drugs and seizures

however my son suffers from yeast overgrowth. We do not treat with drugs

rather use natural antifungals like kyolic garlic, caprylic acid and grapefriut

seed extract followed with acidophilus. When we treat with acidophilus

we always see an increase in seizures followed by a relatively good period.

I believe the antifungals and acidophilus cause yeast die off which produces

toxins- this causes the increased seizures. This may be what you are experiencing.

If you have a yeast overgrowth problem, treating with creams is just like

putting on a bandaid- not really getting to the root of the problem. You

need some systemic stuff- but this will also cause more seizures however

the way I see it is sometimes things have to be worse before they get better-

you have to kill the yeast so you need the die off hense seizures but it

should be short lived.

Hi all,

me again!

Can anyone here tell me,

do you know if 's Nystatin cream for her yeast

rash could be causing her

recent increased seizures? she is having tons of

small head bobs now, everyday.

Her yeast rash is not clearing

up, despite almost 3 months of Nystatin, and I

am thinking of switching

to Flagyl, recommended for yeast overgrowth.

I can't find any info. on

the correlation, if there is any at all, between

yeast meds. and seizures.

Thank you for your help,

Kandy

also has yeast overgrowth. We're treating it

homeopathically which doesn't seem to have the same

" yeast-die-off/increased seizures " side effect.

However, I think it is much slower acting.

Personal opintion. . .and everyone has their own

feelings on this. . . kids who are prone to seizures

need to stay as drug-free as possible and use as

natural remedies as possible, organic foods, non-toxic

cleaners, proper supplementation. . . their bodies

have gone toxic and it only makes the problem worse to

introduce more toxic substances into the body.

Okay. . .down off my soapbox!--D

Oops. . .one more reply. Treating this with meds is

only masking the problem. The underlying yeast

problem is still there and that may be contributing to

the seizures. Yeast is something that really needs to

be cured naturally and then you need to use

preventative measures to keep it at bay.

Get a copy of the book, Prescription for Nutritional

Healing by Balch and Balch for more info on Yeast and

on seizures. There's also a similar book, " Smart

Medicine for a Healthier Child " -- can't remember the

author, though.

Good luck!--D

Like I said before, I would suspect the yeast itself, rather than the Nystatin, but you never know how a kid is going to react to any medication. I still say you arent' going to lick that yeast infection if you don't give her oral pro-biotics or acidophilus to re-balance her system. OK, I'll shut up now.....
