  " A novel and inovative way to celeberate Valentine Day "

Delhi State AIDS Control Society (DSACS) is organizing a blood donation campaign

on 14th of February 2006, Valentine's day. The main aim is to motivate the youth

(college going and working) to come forward and donate blood and symbolize their

love for humanity.

Ten such blood camps are being organised all over Delhi in colaberation with

MTNL. To make these camps youth friendly MTNL is providing free Broad band

internet services, to attract youth by providing free internet surfing. Delhi

State AIDS Control Society will be distributing free friendship bands mentioning

" I am blessed, I donate blood " . A big color ad will appear in all leading

newspapers giving slogan tha " express your love today donate blood " .

Ad will also carry address with contact nos. of the persons in these camps.

Last year too blood camps were held at campuses and workplaces and we got a good

response. Delhi, in spite of being the capital does not boast of a high

voluntary blood donation figure, only about 22% of our blood comes from

voluntary donors, all the rest are replacement.

Blood transfusion carries with it a small but definite risk of transmission of

diseases like HIV AIDS, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C, and this risk is increased

if our donors are not healthy.

Our society is a Delhi Govt society and is implementing the national AIDS

control programme and blood safety is an important mandate of the same.
