Guest guest
Leah, Yes, I think it does get easier. I'm sure it is tough talking about it to others too. It's not like it's a very " simple " disease to explain to people. There's a multitude of emotions that most people experience... just like the grieving process, in a way. Frustration, confusion, denial, anger, acceptance, pity, sympathy, empathy, relief, gratitude (in some cases because the diagnosed Celiac may have been tested for a whole variety of other conditions/diseases), and many more. There is a WONDERFUL book out that I highly recommend any new parent (or even any new person to get). Danna Korn has written two books, one is on Celiac Disease and is a guide to happy healthy gluten-free living, and she also has another book called " Wheat Free, Worry Free. " Both of these books are AWESOME! The first one is almost like a " guide for life as a Celiac. " I've read my copy cover to cover several times and still refer to it often. It's also helpful for sharing information with others or helping explain things. I cannot even begin to tell you how helpful this book is. You can purchase it online at www.glutenfreedom.net. That is the best place to get a copy. I'm sure you'll find this site to be a helpful resource too. We have lots of great members who post lots of good information and get good discussions going on the message board by the questions they post. Make sure to check out the other sections of the site.... there are recipes, GF menu selections from major restaurant chains, some commercial GF product listings, and more. You may also want to check to see if there is a support group in your area. It's always nice to have other families in your area who experience the same sorts of things. You can see if there is a R.O.C.K. (Raising Our Celiac Kids) chapter near you by going to www.celiackids.com Hang in there Leah! We're all here to support each other! ~Melonie SillyYaks owner
