Guest guest
Dana, How about SPF 30 or better and a self tanning lotion that doesn't require ultraviolet rays? This is something that I've done to minimize my exposure to the sun after all of the RAI I've had. It's kind of fun to have a tan year round and no one can tell it comes from a bottle. Geez... I sound like an advertisement! hehehe Best of care. Audra PS - I used the Vitamin E oil on my TT and neck dissection scars (total of 3 which were very large at first). This REALLY helped and my scars are not nearly as noticable as I thought they would be. It has also helped with the stretch marks from my first baby (he was 10 pounds 5 ounces at birth!!!). Guest guest
I used vitamin E oil for about 6 months after surgery. I put sunscreen right on the scar once the surgeon said I could, and did that for the rest of the summer (my surgery was in august and i used sunscreen until turtleneck season started). Once it had started to heal the ocean was no problem for me, but I'd check with the doc to be sure. I guess it worked for me, my scar is not very visible at all. barb > Hello everyone. > > I'll be two weeks post-op tomorrow and I'm using Vitamin E oil on my > scar as much as possible. Guest guest
My TT was five months ago. My surgeon told me to use at least SPF 45 for nine months on the scar itself (once the scab was gone) and on the area around it. I'm very fair-skinned, and my skin tans and burns easily, so I carry sunscreen with me at all times (and am a bit fanatical). :-) I went swimming in the ocean about two months post-op with no problems - the salt water actually felt very soothing on my neck - but you should check with your doctor to be sure. Good Luck!!! (and enjoy the beach!) Scar care > Hello everyone. > > I'll be two weeks post-op tomorrow and I'm using Vitamin E oil on my > scar as much as possible. Guest guest
Dear Dana, I went to the beach shortly after my second surgery. My surgeon also recommended " covering up " the scar. So, my husband and I went out and bought scarves to match clothes I would bring to the shore... It didn't cost too much, and it was kinda fun to accessorize a little. Even found one to match my bathing suit! Just a thought... Take care! Kim
Guest guest
I, too, am a vitamin e believer. I buy the bottle of capsules and pinprick one each night to rub the oil directly on the scar. Regarding sunscreen, living in AZ, I don't ever have " sweater weather " and therefore need sunscreen daily. I got tired of smelling like cocoa butter and have since spent the extra money on Sheseido sunscreen. There is no scent and it works fabulous! karen suspicious 3cm tumor 8/00 TT and dx pap ca 11/00 RAI 100mCi 8/
