*It is near the rice (at least in my store). I'm not too sure how to describe what it is...maybe someone else here can help with that!

What is Belgian Endive (or even Endive for that matter)

* A type of lettuce

kalamatta olives - can spanish or black be used ?

white beans - exactly what does this mean?

*I *think* chick peas, black eyed peas (not totally sure if this is right)

scallions

shallots

*both of these are onions

mirin (book says- sweet sake) uh?

*Rice wine

vanilla bean stick

*like a cinnamon stick...but vanilla

broccoli rabe (book says- a healthy vegetable in the turnip family)

*kind of like broccoli with leaves! It is a more bitter than broccoli.

fris'ee leaves

* no idea!

arugula leaves

*not sure if it is actually a lettuce or not but that is where you would find it.

hearts of palm

*not sure...maybe articoke heart?
