Guest guest
Hi everyone, I am newly dx with celiac disease, and have been gluten free since May 14 - since then, my symptoms have improved dramatically, feels like the " brain fog " I was in lifted, stomach not hurting anywhere near like it did ! Anyway, how long til the diarrhea will go away ? I had a couple of weeks diarrhea free, and accidently got some gluten, since then it has been pretty much diarrhea, but with some normal stuff mixed in. Any ideas, and any other advice regarding celiac will be so much appreciated ! One other question, at my last doctor's appt., my serum iron was checked - it was 12 - I know that it should be at least 35-50, any ideas on how long til I start absorbing again ? Also, is it normal to be able to see what you ate in your poop ? Like, last night I ate hard boiled eggs, and lo and behold, this morning there was boiled egg in the toilet - it looks just like it does when you chew it up. Sorry, this is so gross, but I have nowhere else to ask these kinds of questions, and I figure you have heard worse ! Thanks a billion, and I look forward to getting to know you all. Guest guest
Carla, it is common to be iron anemic with celiac disease. Celiac disease makes it difficult for the body to absorb very much iron. Inadequate absorption of calcium is another common problem. This happens so often so that every person that is diagnosed celiac should have these checked at the time of diagnosis. On this subject, I will send a separate e-mail shortly. If you have insufficient iron, calcium or whatever because of undiagnosed celiac disease, you should take supplements until you get to normal. By then your body will probably have healed enough for it to maintain a normal level of the vitamin or mineral. If you do not digest eggs, then you should not eat eggs. You may be allergic or there is some other cause. You should discuss this with your doctor. Did you have a biopsy done and, if so, what did it show? Jo Anne Help ! How long til... Guest guest
When I get sick from cross-contamination I also see whole food when I go to the bathroom. My doctor told me it was because the gluten affected my digestive process, and instead of digesting the food, it just pushed it through the system. This should stop when are completely gluten free, and are not having any cross-contamination episodes. Hope this helped.
