Guest guest
Since you will be bringing cupcakes anyway, could you bring homemade nuggets using chicken breast? I . have tasted those ready-made chicken nuggets and I thought they were awful. I have had the salad and liked it. I got the grilled chicken and just asked them not to slice it up since it is on the cutting board or with a contaminated knife that the danger arises. I always carry my own salad dressing anyway, but their dressings are supposed to be gluten-free. (Check their website to be sure)Can your children eat soy? There is a soy icecream made by Tofutti. I haven't tasted it, but I think it is GF and dairy free too. I never had to worry about dairy myself, but my niece just got her diagnosis today and she is also lactose intolerant. I hope the party goes well. If it is one of those playground affairs, the food will not be the central attraction anyway. Ann in MD Mcs Birthday Party Question Hi Everyone. My three gfcf kids (ages 9, 7, & 5) were invited to a birthday party at Mc's tomorrow. I am concerned about this, since we have not eaten there since my kids have been gf for 5 weeks. They won't eat the burgers, and always loved the chicken nuggets. I know that they use dedicated fryers at our location, but human error is always an issue when eating out( i.e.: onion rings accidentally fried in with the fries, etc.). I don't want to have them miss out on the party and figure we'll just get the fries and the drink. They can't get the ice cream as they are all dairy intolerant as well. I will bring them cupcakes, like we usually do for their friends parties, but it isn't the same. I guess I am just feeling nervous about it. I wish I could get my hands on some gf chicken nuggets so I could bring some for them. I think it would be easier that way, but I can't seem to get any of the stores around here to carry Wellshire farms nuggets... Any advice for a nervous mother?? And what about their salads? are they okay to have. I am thinking a plain garden salad for myself, since I am not sure the chicken is safe and I can't have any of the dressings or cheese. Guest guest
Hi Ann, Thanks for the encouragement. My kids don't care for my homemade chicken nuggets. I didn't care for the taste of the regular gluten covered dinosaur nuggets before being gf, yet the kids love them, so maybe the gf ones are like that too. I just wish I could find some to try them. Instead they just eat my grilled chicken. They seemed fine at the party yesterday with just the fries and drinks. You are right, they focused more on the playground than the food. My 9 year old had a bit of a hard time with not being able to have the cake OR ice cream. Being gf is much harder when also having to avoid dairy. They do eat the tofutti fudge bars, but I was not able to bring them (or the cupcakes!) since I had to work over at the school until it was time to leave for the party. So I think that added to the disappointment for him. The other two kids just sort of take it in stride...knowing that they will get treats as soon as we get home. I had a plain Cobb salad, no chicken or blue cheese. It was good. I tried the fries and so far so good. , Thank you for your suggestions. My kids can't have the yogurt either, but they did seem to enjoy the party, despite not being able to join in on the cake/ice cream. I felt bad, since the parents of the birthday child were paying $6.99 per kid for them to get a Happy Meal they could only eat half of, just so they could also get the toy and goodie bag stuff. I offered to order theirs separately and pay myself, but they insisted. It is hard for me to accept the idea of paying $21.00 for three kids meals and a few cheap plastic toys! (Can you tell I would never have had a birthday party at Mc's even before gf!)
