Guest guest
We are looking for families interested in exploring and implementing the "Rapid Prompting Method" as a therapy method which allows people with severe autism of all ages to successfully perform/advance academically and to develop a successful method of communications in the process. Our son, who made few meaningful or substantial communicative and behavioral gains after years of intensive ABA/AVB, both home based and residential, has seen dramatic improvements using RPM over the last six months. His gains, both cognitive and behavioral have been nothing short of awe inspiring. He currently does three RPM sessions a day, of approximately thirty minutes each in duration. We have suspended all other therapies. You may access a video of my son working with me at www.ittakesaworld.org It is important to note that I am not yet a certified RPM provider, I am simply a parent who has taken time to investigate and learn the method for use with her own struggling child. As late as last July, our son was deemed "severely retarded", and his negative and escape behaviors made teaching him both a frustrating, time consuming, and at times dangerous endeavor. The video on our site takes time to "buffer", but shows our eleven-year old, severely autistic son learning and doing academic work all the way from the second grade level to the sixth-grade level, which is age appropriate for him. More "advanced" video clips are available on the HALO website at www.halo-soma.org In the near future, we will be posting an "advanced communications clip" as is beginning to truly take off in that area. We began Soma's Rapid Prompting Method in July, and and I attended a four day workshop with Soma Mukhopadyay in Austin, Texas in November. Since then, our son's gains have accelerated dramatically---partially because I have a deeper understanding of "how" to teach past his autism now! As with any successful method for helping those with autism communicate and learn more readily, we feel that the most successful RPM programs are with those undertaken by families who take the time to learn and practice the methods themselves, across environments. For more information on RPM, you may visit the HALO clinic at www.halo-soma.org We are in no way affiliated with HALO, and we are not yet certified RPM providers, although becoming a certified provider is consistent with our corporate mission for "It Takes A World." RPM, Soma Mukhopadhyay, and children benefitting from RPM was heavily featured in the most recent issue of "TAP, The Autism Perspective". If we feel that there is enough regional interest to host a "Soma camp" and provider workshop in Florida, I will begin the ground work for setting up a Florida based workshop and Level 1 provider training. For anyone who is genuinely interested in exploring and recieving training for both yourselves and your child using this novel educational approach, please respond back to goodnighstar@... We are not collecting applications for attendance at this time, we are simply probing community interest. Sincerely, Traci Yates Poff www.ittakesaworld.org "supporting the free will and independence of people with autism and related developmental differences"
