Guest guest
My mother has IBS and I can not ever figure out why she eats things she knows beforehand will flare it up, but I am not familiar enough yet with the official " IE' to know what to say here. I do know for me with my own brand of of intuitive eating I have tried to cut out anything that either made me feel sick or bloated unaturally (hence I cut out soda's, even though I loved them). I'm not sure about giving in to cravings of things that make you sick...that does not seem intuitive to me...I am new here so this is just my 'intution ' so to speak. Fried foods do that to my mother too. Heck, sometimes they do it to me!! What happens if you just eat it once in a blue moon, maybe that is the answer, so you don't just cut it out 100% but just enough to stop it flaring up your IBS. Hope this helps and does not sound critical. lynn Hi,I was really feeling good last week because I ate onlywhen hungry and ate only what I truly wanted. Problemis what I truly wanted were fried, fatty foods and bythe end of the week my IBS flared up. How do I work around this w/IBS? Should I eat onlythose foods that won't affect the IBS? I feel like itgoes against the whole idea of eating intuitively, no?I know this is commonsense: " if it's affecting your body negatively, don't eat it " but I'm new at this andwould like some feedback, esp from anyone who alsosuffers from IBS.Thanks,Tellulah__________________________________________________________ Cheap talk?Check out Yahoo! I love ice cream, cookies, cheesecake, and french fries, but when I eat too much of them I feel sluggish, tired, run down, and just plain yucky. So it makes sense to eat what my body wants, which is good healthy food. _________________________________________________________________ Find a local pizza place, music store, museum and more…then map the best route! http://local.live.com?FORM=MGA001
Guest guest
= - that's exactly right. The challenge is when your mind wants the cookies, etc., and your body knows it is not good for you. You need to remind your body of how badly you will feel after you have it. Guest guest
Hi Tellulah and everyone, I have had IBS for many years and fortunately it has been very mild for many years. Actually, now that I think about it, since I adopted IE it has been much better. That's interesting, I never realized there may be a correlation. Anyway, I think I have talked about this on this board before, and hopefully it will help. With IE you can eat whatever you want, but I divide my choices into three groups. The first group is foods I like. These are all the foods that I enjoy and I eat them whenever I am hungry. I enjoy them and I feel satisfied after eating them. The second group is foods I don't like. I made a promise to myself that I never had to eat these ever again. I don't care if they are super healthy or whatever, I won't eat them. As a child, I was forced to eat many things I couldn't stand, like mayonnaise. Even if it gets put on something on accident (like at a restaurant), I refuse it and get something else, I can't even pretend to be polite about it. OK, third group is foods that don't honor me. These are foods that cause me to not feel good, even if they taste good. Raw onions are in this category for me, I can't eat them without a bad stomachache. Eating a certain amount of sugar is the same thing. I know how much I can eat and beyond that it makes me sick and I feel like I need to lie down and sleep it off. So the foods that cause your IBS to flare up may be on that do not honor list. By putting them on this list, you are making a choice to not eat them, to honor yourself. This way they aren't a food that you " can't " have, you choose not to. Hopefully this will help! Thanks! Gillian Gillian Hood-son, MS, ACSM Healthier Outcomes It's not just about losing weight!
