theresa, replied to your post before i read this.

seek professional help is my only other suggestion.

so sorry i took a harder stance than may be deserved.

but all of it is just my thoughts and none of it is

from experience anyway. just thinking what i might do

in the situation.

Theresa-

Have you heard of the group "Tough Love"? My parents went to those meetings because of my younger brother and it seemed to help them a lot. A Google search will help you find the info.

Sorry I can't say anything else. I don't have kids so I'm in no position to give advice.

another group is parents anonymous...they deal a lot

with abuse and neglect but the group i worked with had

parents who were just having a rough time parenting

and not at all in danger of abusing their kids. i

know it sounds odd i'd say they can help but you'd be

surprised at what they can do. we also had parents

whose kids were in the juvenile justice system already

and the leader had been known to say that some of the

issues could have been prevented if parents had

support during rough times. just another idea. the

i ended up leaving the group because one person had

asked me to help lead and another was saying no to

everything the first person wanted me to do. each

group is different but here they had multiple meetings

each week. one group was parents who were there for

DSS/probation reasons. another was a faith based

parenting group that met at the same time the anger

management/drug/alcohol addicitions group met. then

there was the group for kids in the DJJ system and

their parents. then one night they had a group for

parents who were incarecerated at the county jail. i

think i was blessed to have a really awesome leader

who knew her stuff. but then again, we were the odd

family in our group becasue we were married, not

abusive, not arguing, and we communicated.

i honestly dread the teen years right now because i

know how bastian is now and while i do all i can to

teach him certain things, i remember being a teen.

he thinks he's the boss now...which we allow at times.

mostly he minds very well. and when he is playing

the boss, he knows we're letting him do it. sad part

is when we do, he chooses things we'd prefer anyway.

he also knows that he's only allowed to be the boss if

we are home and that in public he must act the way he

has been taught. not that i know what the

consequences would be if he misbehaved in public other

than removing him from the situation.

thanks for your reply. he will be 18 in february.

i just feel so guilty. i was trying to talk to him and he was not listening and just bitching and i got mad and yelled. i said he is 17 and if he wants to live in my house he would have to go by the rules. or else he had to leave. i wish i never said that. i was so frustrated.

after we calmed down we had a talk and i told him i was sorry. and i loved him more than anything and i wanted him to make good choices.

so we are speaking again.

hey, thanks!! im definately going to check out that website.

when my youngest was still in my tummy,i took refresher classes for taking care of a baby.i already had 2 kids, but i was having a hard time. i was newly divorced and living in the slums and was a mess. so i took classes to help me cope. but i think that we need classes on how to parent TEENS. they are the hardest to parent. not knowing when to let go or lay down the law.
