I wondered if any of you exprience numbness in the small and ring fingers of

your hands? With pain shooting to the elbow / ulner nerve.

I was diagnosed w/ nerve damage and when going to the neorsg. a couple of

years ago was told that is was not nerve damage. That it was coming from a

higher level in the head and neck area?

Does this sound familiar to anyone.

I am tring to get mri's done.

Thanks,

Deb

Hi Deb,

I did before my surgery in 7/99 and now it is starting to come back.

Isn't it weird that it would only be in those two fingers??? I never

asked about it becoz' I had so many other things going on that I

didn't think it was a big deal???

Please post answers to group everyone, I am interested in what that

is

too...........

Thanks,

Hi,

It sounds like me. A few years ago my right hand ring and pinky and that

part of hand went numb and I had bad pain in arm. I was told by an

orthodedist that it was Brachial Neuritis. Those two fingers are affected

by the ulner nerve.

My arm and hand stayed like that for about 4 months. Then the total

numbness and the " bad " pain went away. I have since had problems with both

hands tingling and getting some numbness in those same areas. And my arms

hurt everywhere now, but not in the same way.

I have since been told it is all related to the problems I have--chiari and

cervical stenosis.

Love,

Maureen

In response to question from Tina & Deb,

The pinky and the ring finger are innervated by the ulnar nerve which does

originate in the neck and goes through a channel in the elbow (have you ever

hit your funny bone) then into mainly those 2 fingers. It can be impinged at

many places including the neck. I have ulnar neuropathy from repetitive

motion at work. In my case it is pinched in the groove in the elbow. It

causes quite a bit of pain along with numbness and tingling.

I started w/ the tingling in my rt. ring finger and pinkie in the

hosp. My nsg. said it was how I was laying on it, and because of the

amount of time I laid on it. I was told it could take months before

the tingling stops. OH JOY! =)

My neurologist told me to take a multi vitamin and a calcium supplement to

see if that helps. Usually cramping can be caused from nerve damage or

calcium defiency. I am giving it a shot.

I had the problems with the numbness with the pinky and ring fingers in both

hands a bit after the decompression. Years later, it became the entire hand

and up to the elbow.

I had the electrical test done (forgot what it is called) to check for

carpule tunnel syndrome. I do have that a little bit, but half of the

problem was dx'd as being as a pinched nerve in the neck from the

decompression surgery.

When you have the decompression surgery, they have to cut thru all your neck

muscles esentually. And when they heal, they can heal a bit differently than

the way they were before.

So unless you have surgery to correct that, you just have to live with it.

Now if it is carpule tunnel syndrome, Heffez's group has come up with a new

surgery that the recovery takes only 2 weeks, rather than the traditional 6

weeks.

I hope this helps some of you.

Take care & God Bless,
