Dear Jeanette,

What a wonderful story your daughter wrote! You must be very proud. My son

is 9, and I will have him read the story tomorrow morning. Thank you for

I was 3 and I had epilepsy and febrile convulsions. They were not

fun. I had

been born July the eleventh 1991. I was diagnosed with epilepsy

3. My neurologist was doctor Rice. But since then I have

been to

other neurololgists. My doctor now is Pridmore.Mum and Dad

were

having a hard time because when me and my sister were born

Dear Saro,

Thanks for you reply....and yes i passed on that hug to Leah much

to her delight! We went to the file section and had a another look at good

looking Rohans picture to remind her of who we were talking about. One of

these days when i get the expertize i will post Leahs photo.

Much seems to have happened since i last spoke to you...but i dare to say

that things are settling down again..Leah is well and sz free after a brief

spell of mild sz activity. I found that the raise in calories, and the

subsequent wt gain had upset the balance.

In answer to your question..Leah has had atypical absence sz's since age

3 years...and before that multiple febrile conculsions from 9 months.

I am so sorry that things are not going smoothly for yourself and Rohan

and on top of all that you have to deal with schooling problems.

Did you ever get the carnitine result? You were awaiting that last time we

spoke. I ask coz i know in Leahs case and Isabella here in Australia it made

a BIG difference to sz control.

Dear Saro,

Thanks for you reply....and yes i passed on that hug to Leah much

to her delight! We went to the file section and had a another look at good

looking Rohans picture to remind her of who we were talking about. One of

these days when i get the expertize i will post Leahs photo.

Much seems to have happened since i last spoke to you...but i dare to say

that things are settling down again..Leah is well and sz free after a brief

spell of mild sz activity. I found that the raise in calories, and the

subsequent wt gain had upset the balance.

In answer to your question..Leah has had atypical absence sz's since age

3 years...and before that multiple febrile conculsions from 9 months.

I am so sorry that things are not going smoothly for yourself and Rohan

and on top of all that you have to deal with schooling problems.

Did you ever get the carnitine result? You were awaiting that last time we

spoke. I ask coz i know in Leahs case and Isabella here in Australia it made

a BIG difference to sz control.

Jeanette,

You have had lots of responses to Leah's story and I will say 'ditto'

to all of them. I finally got reconnected to the list, I meant to

send this yesterday but haven't had time away from food prep and

generally learning the keto ropes!!! Anyway my husband was in the

middle of a difficult feeding with Rebekah when read Leah's story...I

read it aloud for both of us to hear to be encouraged. Rebekah

started the diet on Sunday and she is having a difficult time. Wasn't

too bad in the hospital but by the time we got home she was very

constipated, threw up all her supper....and now is cranky and tired.

I am concerned about how lethargic she is. Yesterday she had little

to no energy and she is sleeping a lot. Is this normal? Her ketones

are 8 in the am and 16 in the pm. I miss the happy Rebekah and

can't wait to get over this adjustment period. It's almost like

she's depressed. Anyway thank you so much Leah for sharing your

story...being a teacher I recommend you publish it!!! I would love to

see your illustrations, I bet they are great!!!!

I would keep a close eye on her - she could be just adjusting to ketosis or she

might be

a little too acidic, hence the throwing up. Althoug the ketone levels sound

about right,

each kid is different and some do better with lower ketones. I would just watch

her for

another week or so and if it doesn't improve, think about lowering the ratio a

little.

For constipation, increase fluids, give milk of magnesia, look at smaller

meals more often.
