Guest guest Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 We got just back from the neurologists office. The neurologist said with everything he has seen with the MRI and other tests that he feels Chuck has low grade MS. He said if it were a tumor or a stroke he wouldn't have responded the way he did to the steroids that were given in the ER, like he did. By 2:30am he was able to raise his affected leg and not too long after that stand up. He gave him 4 options. 1 Do nothing and see if/when he has another attack. 2 Send him to a University hospital for extensive testing 3 a spinal tap 4 steroids every 6 weeks unless something changes. Chuck chose #4 and the dr said it was a good choice. He said he would like another MRI next yr around July to see if there are more lesions in the brain. If so he said he could start more aggressive treatments. He said the "big gun" drugs have some not too pleasant side effects plus its runs around $30,000/yr. He also said that you can always UP the treatment plan if need be. He also said he has numerous spurs, arthritis, bulging disks and some nerve pinching but nothing that would have caused him to loose control of his left side and for the steroids to work so well.
