Volvo Ocean Race experience

One evening only, come experience the greatest race on earth!

Jerry Kirby presents his thrilling experiences from the 2006 Volvo Ocean Race aboard sson Racing and Pirates of the Caribbean. The presentation will include wild action videos with a compelling onboard view

of the treacherous ride through the world's roughest waters and nature's most hostile weather. Jerry will

talk about both the sailing and personal challenges of participating in the world's premier ocean race. A

question and answer session will follow the one-hour presentation. To RSVP or for questions email .

Starlight Thursday

On the second Thursday of each month, the Shake-A-Leg Miami Bay-View deck becomes the site for

the most festive and innovative gathering around for SALM members, family and friends. Join us for food

and beverages, socializing and culture. This month's art gallery features Daley and his

underwater photography alongside the incredible professional dance performance of Beauregard

and Maloney who will portray excerpts from their performance, "Falling Up". The Multimedia

show and live music of Lanzallamas Monofonica have been highly complimented by you, the community.

See a sneak peak of last month's Member evening at the Shake Porthole. Members have been gathering

here for months so do yourself a favor and don't miss it this month! Entry is a $10 donation for members

and $15 for non-members. The return of art, music and culture will be tenfold. More information is

Mid Winter Regatta

2007 Mid Winter Regatta has open classes and green beer!

Racers and spectators are invited to spend St. s Day painting the Bay green and racing with

international competitors. New this year, the regatta will be a completely open competition with no

disability requirements! The Regatta unites top able-bodied sailors and sailors with disabilities in an

exciting weekend of sailing on beautiful Biscayne Bay. Countries from all over the world have already

begun registering so don't wait. Classes are open . . . including PRF . . ., register on line or call

305.858.550 ext. 103. The spectator boat is free, racing is $125, painting the Bay green for

St. s day is priceless.

We are proud to announce that Bert will be launching this 17th annual Midwinter Regatta with a

Pre-Regatta clinic on March 15th. A long-time sonar sailor Bert is also a U.S. Sailing Association Race Management Official and senior Judge. He will cover it all - - The Rules, Tactics and Strategies. This will

be a day long program, membership discounts apply but tickets are necessary as are additional social

tickets for your guests.

The Midwinter Regatta is a wonderfully fun event, with the greatest parties and food; a not-to-be-missed

Friday night of SAILING JEOPARDY with our ever-so-charming hostess Vanna "Meredith" White; a

chance and a challenge to paint the Bay green on St. Paddy's Day (Saturday, March 17) when everyone

is Irish and everyone wears green; terrific conditions (warm temperatures) and not failing to mention,

of course, our excellent race management team straight from the Miami Olympic Classes Regatta.

Nike will give 100% of your registration fee to the school of your choice and SHAKE-A-LEG MIAMI can be

that recipient! Join the other Shake members and staff and have a fun run to raise money for the greatest community center around.

through Miami or the NikeGO 1 Mile. Both distances start and finish at the intersection of San Remo Avenue

and SW 57th Avenue, across the street from the Shops at Sunset Place. If you are interested in more

Community Bay Day

Experience the beauty of Biscayne Bay and the magic of Shake-A-Leg Miami!

Bring your friends and family to experience the beauty of Biscayne Bay and the magic of Shake-A-Leg Miami from 1:00 to 5:00 PM. The day is cost free compliments of Shake-a-Leg Miami Watersports and Volunteer departments. "Watersports" is of course the name of the game but if land is your calling, the barbeque, crafts and music will welcome you too. Cruises launch every hour so contact Kate for more information or give us an RSVP for a group of 6 or more. Feel free to call ext. 103. A Night Out In The South

Three prominent artists will showcase during dinner and live music!

"A Night Out In The South”, a dinner event with three prominent Southern artists to benefit Shake-A-Leg Miami, will be held

Saturday night, March 31, starting at 6:30 p.m. This amazing

event is being co-hosted by City of Miami Mayor Manny along with Shake-A-Leg Miami co-founders, Dr. Barth Green and Harry Horgan. The exhibition of paintings will feature new collections by Tata Navia, Wanda and Pervis Young . Cost is $75 per ticket and can be purchased online or by calling . Reserved tables are available as well by email

inquiry. Meet the artists and get a personal introduction

to their newest works. The Southern-style event will be catered

with Soul Food and live southern rock music. The artists are

donating 11 paintings, which will be auctioned in behalf of

Shake-A-Leg Miami. Tickets are limited so purchase quickly.

A Night Out in the South will take place at Shake-A-Leg Miami,

Every Sunday at SALM there is serious, sexy racing at Shake. Come down and try to beat the best at SALM who compete weekly. All Sailing vessels are welcome to compete and the after event, the

competition and enjoyment continue on land. While a few spots are usually available each week

If you are interested in a keel boat or power boat certification this is for you!

US Sailing Basic Keelboat class - get a US Sailing certification over two weekends of time. Don't miss the US Power Boat class as well. Hone your boat handling and water safety skills, and have the card to prove it! Classes are open so register at www.ussailing.org or call Kateat x103 for more information.

Max Roy Golf Jam

February 9th

Steak Night at Shake Cocktail Party & Auction benefiting Shake-A-Leg Miami and the Max Roy Foundation was a great success. The evening

included cocktails, a steak dinner catered by

Hurricane Bar & Grill, wine, coffee and dessert by

Joe's Stone Crab, live & silent auction, and a great

live band ‘The Click’ that got everyone up and dancing by the end of the evening.

Our friends in attendance were numerous and the

funds raised were even more than last year. Thank

you to all the volunteers and attendees!

Shake TV in Production!

February 15-19, 2007

Students participating in the Shake-A-Leg Miami (SALM) Multi-media program traveled the aisles of the Miami International Boat Show and Strictly Sail, interviewing leaders in the Marine Industry.

The program, tagged The "Young Peoples' Network" [YPN], is a new SALM initiative which links a professional video journalist, Caspari & Crew,

with Shake-A-Leg Miami students and college interns. "The YPN introduces students to the e-news gathering biz and thus expand their horizons in many new directions.

The 2007 Boat Show marks the program's virgin venture as well as our intern reporters' first time before

a camera" said Harry Horgan. Stay tuned as ShakeTV will go on-air soon and feature these interviews by our industry leaders.

Miami Herald Neighbors writes: Keeping History

Afloat; Two dozen Coral Gables High School students

are learning the history and ecology of Biscayne Bay while restoring a replica of a historic boat.

The class, part of Shake-A-Leg's Marine Trade School, is restoring a 15-year-old replica of the Egret,

a boat that belonged to Miami pioneer Ralph Munroe and dates from 1886.

Stay tuned as the program will sometime in the next week with NBC6.

Macy's Shopping Day II

March 3rd

We made over $1,100 in donations to support the efforts of the Blind Sailing Team. JC Gil even got a $100 bill donated for the cause!. Our volunteer team was

headed up by Ed and Debbie Benitez and joined included JC Gil, Tamsin Maund, Phoebe Benitez, JJ , Myra Roman, Hoey, Silvia Lima, Ingrid Bon, Fran Lerner and Curtis Cole. "We spread the SALM word and had a great opportunity to promote our upcoming Community Bay Day on March 25, 2007. Thank you to all the dedicated volunteers!" said Debbie Benitez.

Summer Camp Sponsorship

March 8th

The Miami Association of Airline Representatives has generously donated $1,200 to fund lunches for the 1st week of summer camp. Sullivan, SALM Education Director, will be accepting the donation at their monthly dinner on March 8th. We are so grateful for their support.
