Guest guest
Ted- I have been told by a medical professional that it is okay to apply capsiacin cream to my vulvar region. She specializes in vulvar disorders and has used capsaicin cream effectively in at least eight patients under her direction. Christy
Guest guest
Hi Christy, Although capsaicin has been shown to be effective in ameliorating pain, it is definitely a no-no to apply it topically to sensitive tissues, such as mucous membranes, open wounds, etc. An alternative route of administration would be to consume small to moderate amounts of cayenne pepper or other peppers, such as jalpenos (in foods, of course). The oral route, if tolerated, may be suitable for individuals who have no sensitivities or gastrointestinal intolerances to the those foods or spices. In addition, drink plenty of water. Guest guest
The nurse practioner I see has treated at least 2,000 women with vulvodynia, and has about a 90% pain management rate. She works in conjunction with a very knowledgeable PT as many of her patients have pelvises that are out of allignment--the root of their vulvodynia. She has used capsaicin for her toughest patients with a lot of success. She advised one to apply lidocaine topically and then to put the capsaicin in a very small area--the area that she sees as the culprit under the colposcope. She says that you apply the capsaicin twice daily for six months. I don't believe she is published, but she is by far the most knowledgable health care practioner that I have seen. I travelled from St. Louis to Philidelphia to see her. Christy
Guest guest
Someone wrote last week asking for info on capsaicin. I have used it a few times. In fact, I have it on my vulva right now. The first time I tried capsaicin, I thought that I was going to die. I am only supposed to put it in a limited area and I think that I accidently used too much and it spread everywhere. Then I jumped into a hot bathtub to wash it off and heat only intensifies the burning. This is how I now use it, but only once or twice a week because I'm a baby. I apply lidocaine to the small area where I am putting the capsaicin. I then ice my crotch just long enough to get the area a little numb. I apply the capsaicin cream and keep the ice on my crotch intermittently for the 20 minutes before I remove the capsaicin with vegetable oil.
