Guest guest
Celia Shaw's book suggests a dose of 400,000 units (ie 4 ml) for children up to age 8 and for age 8-12 doses 50% higher. Bruce Semon's chapter in Shaw's book suggests a much higher dose:- if 1/8 tsp is 500,000 units, he suggests 1/8 tsp eight times in the day (or 1/4 tsp 4 times). Our gp prescribed the nystatin because I asked for it - so I specified the dosage. is only 3 so I wasn't too happy about having very high doses anyway. I think your son is older (?) Maybe your gp could talk to Mike Tettenborn (or his clinic) on the phone and see what dose they would suggest. Alternatively you could try using the nystatin at a slightly higher dose (say 6ml) and add an OTC antifungal like Biocare's Micropryl or Biocidin drops -see www.biobotanicalresearch.com (these are available in the UK from Health Interlink and are quite effective because they are anti-bacterial in action as well). Good luck Caroline

I went to my doctor yesterday and he put me on Nystatin Tablets 500K 1 x 3 times a day. He also said he had never heard of diluting powder as a > Nasal Spray. He called the Pharmacy and they told him about this > powder which he prescribed for me......Nystatin Topical Powder 15 > Grams. Is this what you use to spray up your nose? Or is this like > Baby Powder for Rashes? ==>Hi Deb, Welcome to our group. Even though topical powder is supposed to be used for skin problems such as diaper rash, I don't believe it would hurt you to mix it with water and use it in your nose. However, your pharmacist should be able to find the correct nystatin powder, which is not topical. Here's how to do a nystatin snizzle: ==>Nystatin snizzle: First you will need to buy an infant nasal syringe. Mix 1/4 teaspoon nystatin powder (or use 1/4 teaspoon of nystatin suspension) into 2 ounces of warm purified water (to body temperature). Suck up the solution to fill the bulb syringe. While leaning forward over the sink, with your face pointing down, not up, and with a towel nearby, insert the bulb syringe into the right nostril (not the left one!). Gently squeeze the solution well back into the nose. Hold your breath; do not breathe in while squeezing. Gently blow out onto a tissue. Then sniffle strongly to clear up the solution remaining in the very back of the nose. Then do the same thing with the left nostril. ==>You can also use a good ocean sea salt in water for a snizzle - see " Sinus Treatments " in the files. > Also, should I take 3 of these pills a day or start off more slowly? > My doctor has never given Nystatin for Candida before but he said he > was willing to try me on it. ==>When you have symptoms of candida in any area of the body it indicates candida is present in the intestines, and it must also be treated in order to get well. The diet is the most important aspect of getting control over candida. If you do not treat candida in your intestines your symptoms will keep returning time after time. ==>You may find that taking nystatin pills will cause more symptoms, esp. digestive, and an increase in other symptoms, along with " die- off " symptoms and reactions, particularly when you haven't started on the diet first. Please read my article " How to Successfully Overcome Candida " to understand how and why the diet is so important. ==>Direct treatment of your sinuses may give you some temporary relief but it will not cure the problem unless you do the entire candida program. You need to start on the diet first. After you have it down pat, then start on nystatin. Taking nystatin before the diet is like getting the cart before the horse. Even then you might need to cut back on the amount of nystatin so you can tolerate the symptoms. Nystatin powder is better than the pills, because the pills contain binders and fillers making it harder to break down. Also you can start taking powder in smaller doses, i.e. even 1/16th of a teaspoon. See my article in the files on Nystatin to understand more about it. ==>Candida overgrowth starts in the intestines, and it puts out toxins that are mainly alcohol. This causes severe headaches, migraines, and other related symptoms such as brain fog, disorientation, etc. This is why the entire candida program is necessary in order to get well. The program I recommend helps the body do its job of healing, repair and rebuilding. There are no quick fixes, unfortunately. That is what doctors provide, and they only treat symptoms, not causes. Do get back to us after you have read the relevant articles. Educating yourself is the key, so you totally understand what you are up against.
