The use of a hyphen or not would depend on the way it is worded. If the stool

is heme negative, there is no hyphen, but if it is heme-negative stool, then

there is a hyphen. Hope this helps, Margaret

Stedman's GI/GU book shows it with a hypen, " heme-negative stool. "

Before the noun, hyphenate as in " heme-negative stools " . After the noun, don't

hyphenate, as in

" the stools were heme negative.
