On February 27, 2007, the Supreme Court heard oral argument in the case of

Winkelman

v. Parma City Schools.

After oral argument, parent attorney Wayne Steedman wrote “Will the Supreme

Court

Side with the Parents in Winkelman v. Parma? Oral Argument Provides Clues”

at:

http://www.wrightslaw.com/news/07/oa.winkelman.parma.htm

Mr. Steedman describes the arguments made by each side, how these arguments

were

received, and questions asked and answered.

At the end of oral argument, Mr. Steedman did a " quick unofficial poll " of

court observers

about their predictions. You will have a chance to cast your vote too.

* Transcript of Oral Argument *

“Will the Supreme Court Side with the Parents?” includes links to the

argument. You can download the transcript of oral argument (30 pages) in two

formats:

After you read the transcript, you will have a clearer sense of what it is

like to observe or

participate in oral argument before the Supreme Court.

* slaw Quick Poll *

At the end of the article is a slaw Quick Poll so you can cast your

vote about the

outcome in Winkelman v. Parma City Schools.

How accurate will we be in predicting the decision? The Court is expected to

issue a

decision by the end of this term, in late June or early July 2007. We will

be able to

answer this question in a few months – or sooner.

The Court may issue a decision more quickly. Pete received a unanimous

decision in

Florence County School District IV v. 34 days after oral

argument.
